Closer to a brown ale than a pale one. Lighter hops than most UK ales. Easy-drinking ale.

Sept, 2002: A smooth and pleasant drink with just that touch of vegetables or rotted leather to add some interest. There is some mild laid back fruit, quite soft, and a very gentle dry hop bitterness with just a hint of pepper. Apart from the slap of wet leather this is altogether too smooth and subtle for my taste-buds. [2.7]

Pours a deep ambery color with a nice long lasting thick off white head. Nose is sort of caramel, and chocolately, very toasty and malty for a beer this light. Flavor isn’t what the aroma would suggest, nicely bitter and refreshing. Very much a malty beer though, still nice and toasty, somewhat sweet, and with some nice caramel notes, but a nice up front bitterness. It’s pretty creamy and the carbonation is low, but nice.

Bottle. At The Flying Barrel, Gothenburg. Dark red/brown color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma: Toasty malty, fruit, caramel, red berries, fresh baked bread and some light hops. Flavor: Malty, creamy and smooth, lightly toasted bread, caramel and some herbal hops. This one must be an excellent session beer. Hope I can try it on cask sometime.

I tried this beer on November 3, 2007 after purchasing from my local LCBO outlet. The beer poured a very nice translucent red into the glass with a small white head. The aroma was a combination malt, hops, and nuts. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, mild carbonation, and creamy. The flavour is malt, nuts, and a slight hint of hops detectable by a slight bitterness.

From can. Amber with light foam, dry and faintly fruty. Ultimately a snore.

Hugely lacey off-white head covers the light copper body. Fatiguing sugary, grainy, sulphury and eggy nose feels very herbal, orangey, leafy and chamomile-like. All sweet flavours. No bitterness worth speaking of. Dull, mild, non-effervescent, earthy palate. Poor and thin really.
