Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - January.
Who’s tired of celebrating after 250 years? Kick off January with this deep amber beer, with its toasted nutty aroma, spicy hop perfume and a hint of lingering malt. Lovely with Haggis.
Hops: Fuggles.

Cask Handpump at the Penny Black JDW, Northwich 25/01/2009 Some fruit aroma. White head. Bronze mid brown coloured hoppy and fruity with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter pale malt finish.

Cask at the Ye Olde Mitre. Gorgeous red-amber and tight, white creamy head. Sourish nose tells of stale beer or dirty lines, but here? Barman says that’s how it’s supposed to smell. OK then. Fruity flavor and mild bitterness held back by that nagging sourness. Don’t know whether to be disappointed in the beer or the pub or both.

Cask (handpump) @ Market Porter, 9 Stoney Street, Southwark London, Greater London England SE1 9AA.
Clear medium brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, dusty, nutty, toffee. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft and smooth. [20081231]

Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End, Harrow. Dark copper with off white head. Sweet and malty with an abundance of diacetyl. Some dusty hops in the finish. Typical recent offering from Caley.

Medium creamy offwhite lasting head. Lightly hazy brownish red body. Fruity nutty wild berry aroma with dusty earthy port notes. Very harmonic. Dry-sweetish papery port and prunes taste. Soft, mild mouthfeel. Thinnish body. Dry papery fruity aftertaste with earthy port notes. Very nice. (0.25l cask, The Warrington Hotel, Maida Vale, London. Tap said 4.7%, not 4.6%.)

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark amber brown with a small white head. Initial buttery malt aroma later revealing earthy notes. Earthy dog hair malt taste with a mid bitter finish. Sound tasty pint. 21.2.09 Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Amber with an off white head. Malt aroma and taste. A little sourness. Some bitterness. Decent no frills bitter. Handwritten pumpclip claimed 4.5%. Rated 5,4,5,4,12:3.0

Cask (handpump) at The Willow Walk (JDW), Victoria, 25 January 2006. Dark reddish brown colour. I presume they are aiming for a rich malty style but the cold serving temperature negated much of the aroma, leaving just a faint caramel character. Quite sweet flavour, with toffee accents. A light hop presence provides some balance. Pleasant enough but not too exciting.
