Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - January.
Who’s tired of celebrating after 250 years? Kick off January with this deep amber beer, with its toasted nutty aroma, spicy hop perfume and a hint of lingering malt. Lovely with Haggis.
Hops: Fuggles.

Cask (handpump) @ Market Porter, 9 Stoney Street, Southwark London, Greater London England SE1 9AA.
Clear medium brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, dusty, nutty, toffee. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft and smooth. [20081231]

Cask Handpump at the Penny Black JDW, Northwich 25/01/2009 Some fruit aroma. White head. Bronze mid brown coloured hoppy and fruity with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter pale malt finish.

Cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. Had this on Burn’s Night along with haggis, tatties and neaps along with a double Glenmorangie. Deep chestnut with creamy head. Yeasty nose, some nice dark malts in mouth. Finish is quite soft with some tingly hops. Needs more body and backbone but drinkable enough. Re-rate at the same pub a year lager. Just too mcuh diacetyl on this, butter and caramel on aroma, drinkable enough in the middle, some hop and matl on finish. 2.6/5

Not quite the haggis bash bitter from previous years. However theres some cali hops playing with the spice from the haggis (as it must be drunk with haggis).

Cask conditioned from a Wetherspoons. Dark reddish beer with little head. Cold and dull is the overall impression. The JDW serve destroyed any lingering flavour leaving a mish mash of a cerealy, vaguely hoppy bitter.

Cask (handpump) at The Willow Walk (JDW), Victoria, 25 January 2006. Dark reddish brown colour. I presume they are aiming for a rich malty style but the cold serving temperature negated much of the aroma, leaving just a faint caramel character. Quite sweet flavour, with toffee accents. A light hop presence provides some balance. Pleasant enough but not too exciting.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark amber brown with a small white head. Initial buttery malt aroma later revealing earthy notes. Earthy dog hair malt taste with a mid bitter finish. Sound tasty pint. 21.2.09 Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Amber with an off white head. Malt aroma and taste. A little sourness. Some bitterness. Decent no frills bitter. Handwritten pumpclip claimed 4.5%. Rated 5,4,5,4,12:3.0
