Cask at the Dartmouth Castle, London W6. Amber with a creamy off-white head; aroma of oranges; sharp citrus bitterness on first sip; then becoming less bitter with a creamy, smooth and dry finish. Excellent.

Cask at the Black Lion, Hammersmith. Some citrus hops, decent malty body. As this is being rolled out all over the UK, it is made to offend no one - which means it will excite no one, either.

A Mes rate: Cask at The Distillers Arms in Hammersmith. Amazed to find I haven’t rated this so I sank a few pints while watching Jamie do a gig. Clear golden brown with a slim but well behaved white head. Aroma of reasonable crisp grassy hops with some creamy malt underneath. Very ver slight diacetyl note. Flavour follows on nicely with some additional tobacco. Slightly soapy hops. Bitter finish that is a little too short but nice and clean. Served in good condition too.

Draught (Carlton Arms, Cambridge) listed at 3.5% Light golden colour, little head. Sharp, slightly sour aroma, citrus and a few vegetables. Starts sweet and malty, builds up with a pleasant bitterness. Slightly sour , end of barrel?, but not too noticable. Short but pleasant hoppy finish.
