Mmmm, the direct fire works wonderfully on this to create a wonderful taste of burnt toffee nicely balanced by dark and tangy hops. A true "Wee Heavy" and a true delight. Classic! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2002 Bottled. Known in the UK as Edinburgh Strong Ale with abv of 6.4%. One of the most appealing looking beers I have seen, Lovely pin sharp copper bronze colour with an excellent long lasting rocky cream coloured head and just the right level of condition. Enticing aromas of malt, cheese and yeast with a woody smokiness lurking in the background. Complex flavours of tangerine malt and yeasty esters and a very soft finish that has a perfect balance of delicate hoppiness that isnt over bitter and maltiness that isnt over sweet. At last a pretender to Fullers ESBs crown.

It has been a couple weeks since I drank this beer so I will give vague rating. I enjoyed it immensely. Stong and malty. I wish I could get more; a friend delivered this from Scotland.
