Grapefruit flavours are very apparent throughout this beer. They show up first as the scent of grapefruit zest which complements the light, hoppy aroma and sweet maltiness. The malty body also has grapefruit notes and a light grapefruit bitterness carries through into the finish. VA Homebrewer (525), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 2, 2003 Golden in color with a small head. Malty, floral aroma with some background spiciness. Flavor profile is caramel maltiness and excruciatingly floral. Sweet, floral flavors really detract from my enjoyment of this beer. Finish is clean and body is moderate. sloth (1684), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

Flavor is tangy and sour with some lemons and buttered popcorn. This is not very full bodied but its a nice sipping beer for hot weather. kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Oct 10, 2003 Golden beer with a diminishing white head. Aroma is of sweet, grainy malt whiskey, diacetyl, and a very light caramel. Cleanly malty and very well balanced. There's that damned diacetyl again. I don't really mind a light diacetyl, but this is a bit overboard. Very strange to find this in a "Scottish" beer, since it's not English, but nevertheless, it's there. No fruitiness and clean otherwise. Light medium body and low/moderate carbonation seem appropriate for this type of beer. I was hoping for a more caramelly, cleaner diacetyl free beer. The site qualifies it as a "blond Ale", but I'm guessing should be a "Scottish 60". I guess I'm disappointed from what I expected, but it's not a horribly bad beer, minus the diacetyl. I wouldn't seek this beer out, but I do like the grain profile enough to try to make my own Scottish out of Golden Promise if I can find it. HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 2, 2003 (Bottle) The beer is a very pale gold. The head is rather thin and white. The nose is yeasty, malty, and sweet. I think I detect the use of corn sugar. Very light body. Quick finish. A promise not delivered. kwoeltje (1333), Manchester, Missouri, USA
