Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA May 8, 2005 Thanks for the growler of this Rob! Glad to see Calhouns branching out and making some big beers. This ale poured a deep, lustrous reddish amber, the head barely able to make it out of the thick body. Aroma was flat out sweet, with a faint fruit note. Flavor matched. Sweetness prevailed, almost like candy sugar had been used, with a bit of fruitiness (apricots and apples?) that bordered on English barleywine territory as opposed to a Belgian style. Ultimately too sweet and muddled for my tastes, but I hope they keep trying at making the bigger beers.
