MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Oct 6, 2008 Sampler at brewery. Light spice aroma with touch of fruit. Cloudy, light yellow straw. Nice spiciness and fairly well hopped with spicy noble variety. Good example of style. dmtroyer (407), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2007 Draft at Cally’s. I think I had this near the time I returned from living in Germany and this was a little bit of a disappointment. Not as hazy as most hefeweizens, and with a smallish head. This especially looks out of place in a pint glass, and gives mostly a thin mouthfeel with not much malt presence. Decent effort but I hope they revisit the recipe and give the style better justice. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Aug 12, 2007 On tap at the Microfestivus ’07... Pale pear pour with a diminishing head. The nose is of non-ripened bananas. Light banana notes accompany some yeast, and possibly imagined lemon zest. This feels "off-the-mark", missing any real clove or spice notes. The mouthfeel is almost plastic... dry-hopped finish and seltzer mouthfeel make this underdone. It’s a bit boring and uninteresting. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jul 1, 2007 Thanks to Rob, my Calhoun’s hook up, and his 5 growlers for the IRL race this weekend. Light yellow, very hazy, nice white head lasted well. Aroma was faintly of grain and lemon. Flavor was basically a match. Didn’t get a lot of the typical hefe notes, but for those who prefer more understated examples of the style, this would hit the spot. Quite refreshing though. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 1, 2007 Thanks to Rob for bringing this from the brewery. Cloudy white body with a medium frothy white head. Sweet fruity citrus aroma. Sweet citrus and lemon peel flavor. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Jun 12, 2007 draft. has an unfiltered yellow color with a one finger white head. aroma is wheat and malt. has a light body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with a little lemon. not to bad overall, but did not run across the banana and cloves. can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Nov 3, 2005 Good, typical to the style. More on the light side than to the malty side, but another good brew. Not exceptional, but good. walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Oct 22, 2005 Draft. Hazy straw color with no head, served with on orange slice. Aromas of wheat/grain, wet grass, yeast, sour lemon citrus, faint banana and bubblegum, mild spice, and orange (from the wedge). Flavor mimics this well, focusing on the sour grain malt. I wouldn’t call the banana and clove "distinct", as they are toned-down compared to some hefes, which is fine by me. Very similar to the Belgian White, though bigger-bodied. Very enjoyable!
