Commercial Description:
This copper hued ale is medium bodied and has a pronounced rye character imparted by 20% Rye Malt used in the mash. A generous dose of American hops lends a citrusy note to compliment this exceptionally crisp beer.

On tap at the brewpub on 08/15/2008. Very clear golden amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Light rye and faint caramel aroma. Sweet rye flavor, some floral and citrus hops. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

From growler 08/30/2008 from brewery taps courtesy of Maniac. Grainy fruity aroma with rye notes. Clear amber. Nice fruity rye flavor with graininess and tea like hop flavor.Finish is fairly sweet and musty.

On tap at brewery. Clear orange with a fizzy white head. Rye bread and fennel aroma and a pungent rye taste -- would be good with a patty melt.

Sample produced from a growler courtesy of maniac. Medium orange, clear appearance. Slightly musty peppery aroma, clearly rye influenced. Flavor matches, dusty pepper, light toasty malts, and just a bit of soapiness, again a potential rye side effect. Not a bad brew, but could use some tweaking to hit my tastes more. Maybe more hops would have put it more in my ballpark. This description sounds worse than it actually was.

One of my first Rye experiences, this pales in comparison to the Dock Street Rye IPA I had recently. Pours a light brown with an off-white head. Body and nose are composed mostly of dark malt, a bit of sour mash, and bread-like complexities. Hops are hard to come by and a think the "exceptionally crisp beer" descriptor is stretching it a bit. All in all, good effort... I love that they keep trying new things.
