Commercial Description:
Maybe more akin to a British Dark Mild, though with more alcohol than that usually has. Dark, chocolatey and lightly roasty, this low gravity British bitter is made with British dark caramel malt and 2 row barley malt.
Bitchin' Bitter has a warm, toasty maltiness reminiscent of English biscuits with a subtle nutty note of sweet but dry caramel. The hop character offers pleasant notes of cut grass and other florals, and assists the finish of this ale with a firm, balanced bitterness. Our house ale yeast, during its warm fermentation process, was coaxed into producing some very complex fuity esters, which round out this authentic British-style session beer. Deep red-brown and served with an unfiltered mien, carbonation is also slightly lower than our other house beers in keeping with tradition. Overall this seemingly mild beer is quite complex despite its delicate character, and makes for an exceptional session drink.

Caramel malt and earthy, herbal hops in the aroma. Opaque, dark brown-amber with low off-white head that recedes to ring. Fairly malty flavour with caramel and toffee character up front that is chased by a decent finishing bitterness that leaves the palate clean and waiting for the next sip. Some hints of chocolate. Medium body with fair carbonation. On tap at the brewpub with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.

New England Road Trip Easter ’05 with MartinT, tiggmtl and Rastacouere, beer #63. Sample at the brewpub. Dark cloudy copper from which huge sweet caramel-apple maltiness emanates, followed by a whiff of tar...coffee touches the caramel-sweet front, dryness shows up quickly for the woody/ashy/roasty coffee finishing flourishes, and a bit of English hops lend a touch of gravity and delicacy to the long ending.

This bitter ours quite dark. It has notes of caramel, malt, and toast. The palate shows the same flavors in a creamy feeling that also give a light note of hazelnuts.

Served in a pint glass at The Kinsale in Boston, MA this was a dark and rich copper color with light off-white head and good lacing. Noise of floral hops and caramel malts, and a good rich and oily mouthfeel. Flavor is malty, with hints of coffee and chocolate, and the bitter taste is quite nice and befitting its type. Really easy to drink.

On draught at CBC. Pours a dark brown-chestnut body with a good-sized, creamy, off-white head. Aroma gives notes of walnuts, chocolate, floral hops and not as much fruitiness as expected. Low yeast activity it seems. Flavor is similar, a profound chocolatiness wraps around the palate and is very substantial and lightly chewy. Touches of bitter roast and herbal, minty hops. Definitely some mint nuances in this. Light coffee and base malt on the finish, keeps the flavor true adn the body does not water down. Another top-notch low gravity beer from these guys. Medium body, very low carbonation. Ample lacing and no alcohol apparency, obviously.

Nice copper color, adequate off-white ring. Very fruity nose (blackberries) and strongly nutty. Appealing fuggles like hoppiness gives out woody and spicy tones. Perhaps a bit candyish and quite citrusy, but those fruits and nuts make it feel like a dessert bitter. On the tongue, it becomes quite earthy, lightly tart, strongly grassy and unfortunately a bit too sweet and astringent for its own good or this would have been a great session ale. Airy carbonation, medium body, comfortable feel.

On tap. Pours a cloudy golden with frothy white head. Aroma is a bready, grassy and soft with a little hops. Very nice. Flavor is yeasy, bready and a little citrus. Finishes bitter. Rather thin body, but this is a good session beer. Get the "tower".

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear medium orange color. The head was white with good retention and lacing. Smelled of flowery hops, Ritz Crackers, and toffee in roughly equal proportions. Light to medium bodied and delicately sweet with mild bitterness. Pleasant mix of caramel and flowery hop flavors. Carbonation was appropriately on the lower end of the spectrum.
