Commercial Description:
Deep and dark, full-bodied and robust, our Porter is crammed full of rich roasted malt character. With underlying notes of fruitness, caramel, and toffee, it finishes with a strong hop presence.

Aroma is of roasted coffee flavors. Taste is of a bitter coffee, not terribly pleasant in my opinion. Nothing special

Tap at the brewpub. Aroma of coffee, over-roasted, almost burnt malt, and lots of semisweet chocolate. Flavor’s highlight is also chocolate as the roasted malt continues to be just too burnt for me. Some astringency and a bit of a metallic finish, but the chocolate component holds strong as well making it a decent drinker.

Pours a dark brown color with a thin beige head. Pleasant aroma of smoked and roasted malt. Good flavor of smoked and roasted malt, there’s also a presence of chocolate. This is a very interesting porter.

A deep dark brownish porter with red hues and a thick moka head. A nice mix of chocolate and hops, nice. In mouth, a classy hoppy porter with powdery chocolate. On tap at brewpub Oct. 11 2008.

Very dark and full bodied. Foamy beige head. Roasted, caramel flavors dominate. Lighter notes of coffee and chocolate. Creamy with a nice dry finish.

Draft at the brewpub, followed the next day by multiple glasses from a fresh growler. The body is an extremely dark, slightly transparent, chestnut brown color. A dense, lasting, beige colored head leaves nice, solid rings of foamy lace behind. The aroma is very roasty, scorched caramel and toasted coffee beans showing strong. There’s also a good bit of vanilla, along with piney hops and hints of earthy stone on the nose. Flavors follow suit, chocolaty, caramelized, and roasty throughout. The piney hop billing is substantial for the style, reminding me of a lesser version of Three Floyds Alpha Klaus, but with more of an espresso influence. Very earthy on the whole. The palate is medium-full and creamy, with perfect carbonation. This is a great little session porter. I could drink quite a few of these and be happy.

Dark brown. Cocoa and fudge aroma with toastiness. Starts with a nice chocolate/coffee note but gets burnt, tannic and astringent late. Has a full body and finishes dry, but it’s still a bit harsh.

On draft at the brewpub. The aroma is dark and very roasty - like French Roast coffee beans. The flavor is rich and strong. There is a lot of coffee in there - easily enough to identify this as a stout if I had not seen the beer’s name and style ahead of time. There is a subtle smokiness, an even more subtle note of biscuits and caramel malts, and a balanced, bitter finish. The mouthfeel was rich, full, and creamy in texture. Overall, this was one of the best and most drinkable brews I sampled - a good porter, but a great American Stout.
