GarrettB (413), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 11, 2008 I like to keep my reviews of red ales succinct. The beers are usually less than exciting, presented more as a drinking companion over a game of darts or, better yet, Smash Bros., then something to seriously stitch your brows in thought over. The Strongarm Ruby Red from Cameron’s is an odd bird, despite its classification as a bitter. An uncharacteristic touch of wood and cheese mixes with caramel, roasted apple skins and baking soda to make a strange aromatic paste that is both acceptable and repelling. The mottled white head and the deep red body conceal an austere flavor that is mostly carbonated, rusty flavored and soapy. An off apple cider flavor makes for the only palatable touch in the taste, but even this is askew on the tongue thanks to an unwelcome baking soda flavor. This is drinkable, but unpleasant. Order the macro-cider if you need a touch of Anglo-Saxon drinking. faroeviking (4418), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Jul 28, 2008 Cask @ the Wharf, Aalborg. Strong Arm Ruby Red Ale. Bit unclear amber colour. Small very steady nicely creamy white head. Soft spice ripe fruit toasty maltiness in the aroma. Flavour of toasted malt and fruits, slight sourness, some spice and bit of bread. NosirIwont (879), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Jul 27, 2008 Draft @ The Wharf, Aalborg. Pours a clear, deep copper colour with a firm, creamy head. Beautiful! Nice lacing as well. Sourish berry aroma. Malt as it warms. Slight notes of raisins. Sharp flavour. Sour berries mixed with malt. Notes of rye/bread appear as it warms. Finish is the same. Dry and a bit thin. An interesting beer, but it’s not really me, and I also find it a tad cloying. 26-07-08. stoutlover72 (1336), NorCal, California, USA Jun 8, 2008 This beer really didn’t do much for me interms of either taste or aroma. It wasn’t bad in any ways, just rather plain. Easy to drink though, so that was good. The aroma of light fruit and sweet malts. The flavor profile was pretty much the same. The thinness of the beer was a bit of a letdown. Simple, easy drinking beer. Didn’t have to think too hard about this one. phishpond417 (1463), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 14, 2008 This beer pours a delightfully bright red colour. moderately sweet at first, smoothes out to a well balanced malted mouthfeel and finishes with a soft touch of hops.
