ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Jun 17, 2009 Bottled(330ml). -Dark amber coloured, medium to big off white head, fruity coriander nose. Fresh and pleasant fruity and spicy taste with notes of caramel and yeast. Soft mouthfeel. I’m very satisfied with this beer. thewolf (5635), Kolding, Denmark Feb 28, 2009 Bottle, bought @ Boysens Vinhandel, Odense.
Pours orange-brown with a fine, smallish, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is quite fruity. Some raisins and raspberries, coriander, ginger and vanilla. Light oranges as well. High carbonation, a tad underwhelming mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet and malty, some caramel, okay ginger. Long, lingering aftertaste with spices and yeast. Fair enough, but nothing really special. An easy pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a three finger thick, amber tinged, light tan colored head. The beer is a red-plum color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright red, copper highlighted hue when held up to the light. As I pour this aromas of raisins are noticeable; a deeper inspection reveals a very sweet smelling nose that is a mix of fruit and sweet spices. Ample cherry aromatics, mahleb, fenugreek, candied orange zest, grenadine, a touch of ginger, some white pepper and some clove aromas. The sweet fruitiness is so big here that it almost seems artificial.
Surprisingly dry tasting for such a sweet seeming aroma, though this does have a touch of sweetness to it. The finish is where that artificial fruitiness from the nose comes into play as this lingers on in the mouth with notes similar to cherry extract, blackberry flavors and a touch of cider notes. This has a sort of nuttiness to the finish that seems like it is a bit stale or perhaps even rancid (though this last part is subtle). As the beer warms up it becomes a bit more sweet, but again with that artificial sweetness to it. The beer is pretty light bodied for a beer of this strength, though it does have some heft to it.
Interesting, to say the least, I really wonder where this artificial fruit and sweetness is coming from here. Still it is a little too much and there isn’t enough other things going on to provide any sort of balance to these flavors. BoBoChamp (1334), Gent, Belgium Jan 27, 2009 33cl, from the brewery, complex brew, not balanced, hazy, good head, nothing special armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Jan 7, 2009 Little bit better than the Gold one. Nice appearance with an amber body with floating sediment, nice off white head what diminishes to a small but delicious one. Fine aroma of herbals, orange, yeast, caramel. Medium body, lively carbonation. Caramel, some spices and fruity citrus tastes. Light bitter, coriander in the end. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Dec 27, 2008 A Mes rate. Bottle from beermerchants.com. Dark amber with a thin off white head. Far too many floaters. Sweet and astringent on the nose with a clear hit of emulsion. Metallic and yeasty flavour with very little of anything enjoyable. Not a great beer. cab (861), Denmark Dec 26, 2008 Bottle.33cl. Very fine sweet aroma, maybe to sweet but pleasent, the alcohol is a bit to the strong side. Long aftertast, sweet and a bit bitter, fine beer.
