Poured deep, copper-tinted cola brown with a short cap of tan head. The aroma picked up a delectable blend of well-roasted coffee, toasty dark chocolate, and vanilla.. just excellent. The flavor didn’t take many steps back.. the same components as the nose were present, joined by rich molasses character and rolled oats.. some coffee and a touch of earthy bitterness around.. the finish was relatively quick, but carried through tasty chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied, roasty, and toasty on the palate with a touch of sourness present.. a touch fuller and it would’ve been a 4 (palate and OA). I’d love to drink more of this. Aroma is pretty one-dimensional, with just a blast of coffee. Taste is also dominated by coffee, but there was also a hint of chocolate present. A little thin, but a very long finish due to the coffee. This was pretty simple, but for what it is, it isn’t bad. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2008 Thanks to Skyview. Dark brown pour with a thin cream tan head. Fresh ground coffee bean nose. Thin bodied. Roasted malt comes out in the flavor along with the coffee. Some sweet hint of hop as well. badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 26, 2008 A huge thanks to Skyview for this one. Black color with a thin head. Monster espresso aroma. The coffee seems to change from raging espresso to a moderate amount of dark roast in the taste. Thinish malt body, but that’s probably from expecting an ’espresso stout’ to be an Imperial monster, not a relatively low octane dry stout. Slight roasted malts round it out. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2008 Picked up a single 22-oz bomber at the brewpub in Victoria, BC. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin tan head that has slowly dissipates to a fine film and a thin tan ring. Aroma of mostly roasted dark coffee that over powers the toasted dark malt and flowery hops. Taste is medium bodied, very little carbonation with flavors of roasted dark coffee, some oatmeal character, flowery hops, a touch of dark chocolate and some light herbs. Finish remains the roasted coffee aftertaste that gives this stout a one dimensional tasting beer. If you enjoy the coffee presence in any beverage you will not be disappointed one bit. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 28, 2008 (Draught) Sampled at the brewpub on March 27, 2008. Pours a thin, dissipating beige head with an opaque body. Nose of full-on coffee.Texture is a tad thin but there is so much good flavour and malt base that it can easily be overlooked. Sean Hoyne mentioned that this stuff is selling quicker than most anything on tap. Congratulations Sean! This is a great beer that should make it onto your regular tap line-up.
