rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 13, 2006 Bottle 2005 vintage, yellow gold color, with no head at all, no carbonation like a flat beer, the nose is one of dirty, dusty, barnyard, and leathery, notes, hint of oakiness, wet wood, and sour aromas follow through on a medium-bodied tart palate with a green apple sourness character, tartness, acidic accent, but less sharp then the other cantillon, a lemony fruitiness, leading towards a tart and dry finish. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 13, 2006 Bottle 2005 vintage: Pours an orange golden color, with virtually no head and no carbonation. Aroma was sour, with some funkiness. Flavor had a lemony tartness to it, some oak. The mouthfeel was what really threw me off with this beer, the complete lack of carbonation gave it an almost wine like texture, with a very dry finish. It was just bizarre and took me a while to adjust to it. By the end of my glass I was starting to enjoy it, though I think I still prefer the blended lambics. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 3, 2006 750 ml bottle, 2004 vintage, via rudolf. Pours a clear bright gold with a thin film and small ring of white foam. Completely still carbonation visually. Aroma is lightly tart with a powdery sugar overtone. Lots of cellar funkiness in the form of musty dampness and alot of oak/woody notes. Flavor is very funky with a light tartness, almost like a light cider vinegar. A very clean and distinct oak flavor. Very approachable and alot less tart and funky than I was expecting. Finish is dry and refreshing with lots of brett. Not really sure how to "score" the mouthfeel on this. Any other beer and this would be terrible, but if you try to rate to style I can only assume that this is perfect. Completely still and somewhat thin in texture. My first, and possibly my only, taste of an Unblended Lambic. I really enjoyed this alot, and didn’t and a bit of a problem downing the whole 750 by myself. Pretty awesome, I’d love the chance to try another example. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 3, 2006 I tried to rate this higher for its within styleness, but geez, it is so sour, I’m just not a fan. Poured with absolutely no head. The color was mildly cloudy amber orange. The aroma was straw and wild barnyard sourness. The flavor was much of the same with some vinegar coming through. I like my beers bitter, but this was funky and sour. Not my cup of tea. RichardGretton (3128), Leicestershire, England May 23, 2006 Bottle. Still golden beer with little head. The aroma is slightly fruity and lightly sour and the flavour is largely sour and nothing else. Overall a disappointing beer. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England May 23, 2006 Updated: Nov 14, 2007My god my first flat unblended lambic. Aroma gives a little sours thistles, some metallic features and roses, at the start at once at room temp wet dog has a wee say also. . Taste is floural and sour, like eating a flower bed, with a decent amount of tartness, all are very delicate. This is such a simplistic beer its a masterpiece. One of the best beers iv had this year. RERATING: One of the best beers in the world by quite a stretch. Rerating again. Whole bottle in 10 mins at duff’s house. Ah what a beer! GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland May 23, 2006 [bottle from beers of europe] Surprisingly delicate aroma or white grapes, lemon peel, apples, sweaty musk, acidity. smooth, drinkable body, tart finish. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA May 6, 2006 Pours still with a somewhat murky blonde body. Aromas are as intense as any beer I have smelled. Nasty sweat socks, burnt rubber, horse blanket, a moldy mustiness and tons of acidity. The body was still and dry. The flavors are dominated by sourness. It is just intense. Finish is dry dry dry. Can’t say that I really enjoyed this, but it was an experience.
