NomDeBeer (398), Maryland, USA Feb 1, 2009 I’ve been very impressed with Cantillon beers, but this one was disappointing. Not particularly drinkable or enjoyable. Blake (213), Orange, California, USA Jan 27, 2009 750ml bottle from High Time Wine. Pours with a few bubbles, but flat. Had to question whether it was supposed to be this flat or if I got a bad bottle. Aroma was of strong oak (expected after aging three years in a barrel) with a hint of tartness - apples perhaps - and some malt. Color is clear, crisp, gold with again, no bubbles to speak of.
Flavors are intensly lambic, oaks, woods, but a bit too much like a cider or wine. The tartness of the citrus comes through at the end, a satisfying finish, but in the end, I felt it lacking overall. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jan 26, 2009 Hazy honey yellow with a thin splash of bubbles but essentially flat. Lots of tart acidity and oak in the aroma. Feels flat on the tongue with a big oak note before the drying finish of acidity that draws the saliva out of your mouth. Nice citrus and apple cider undertones as well. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Jan 13, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours clear gold, no head, no carbonation, we even tried to force some by giving a hard pour. This was our first unblended lambic. The nose is very oaky, tons of wood, with some tart apples. The taste is a little tart but very smooth and flat, reminds me a bit of the great Spanish Cider Sagardoa. Very different and we sipped on this beer all night long as a palate cleanser in between big imperial stouts. djtimeless (170), Florida, USA Jan 10, 2009 Pours out clear gold with no head. Smells funky, oaky and sweet. Taste is apple juice like. Funky yeast and notes of wood. Nice dry finish. Great old lambic taste. Tasty Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Dec 30, 2008 AlohaC’s gathering. Smells really sweet. Pineapple and grapes. Light amber and cloudy. Taste is full and tart. Not a sharp pucker of flavor. It feels like it is pulling all the saliva from my mouth. Leaves me with a dry mouth. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Dec 29, 2008 interesting nose very cantilionesc....and no carbonation....but still nice to try and unblended lambic! piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Dec 28, 2008 Bottled sample, 2001 vintage. Medium gold in colour with zero carbonation. Aromas of citrus infused funk, old wood, a bit of earth, and a hint of pale malt. More funky and dry than sour in the mouth, with increasing earth and somewhat cheese like flavors. Some citrus and wood remain. Enjoyable, but not my favorite Cantillon product.
