Stunning aroma with lots of sourness, must, grapes and flower petals. The flavour was musty, some old cheese, apple skin, startch, very sour. Refreshing acidic saliva-inducing mouthfeel, medium-light body. The finishes lingers on and on. Wow, it doesn’t get much better then this. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 12, 2003 On cask it is just called "Cantillon Lambic". My reaction to seeing this cask at GBBF was utter delight. These are the experiences to live for. Duff and I were not at all disappointed with our high expectations. Hazy, amber with touches of brown, large bubbles for a slightly ring of head. Buttery, cider aroma, cheesy, musty, with increasing depth. Very compelling. A sour hit of flavor and then a quick finish except a lingering touch of cheese. Flat body but no problem--smooth and just so juicy. Acidic. It triggered massive salivation. Gosh, it was just so much fun to drink. If I hadn't been at one of the world's great beer festivals I would have just kept going back for pint after pint of this. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 20/20 | Mar 19, 2008 Courtesy of Naka. Hazy orange body with no head and no carbonation. Incredibly funky smell with lemon and orange fruity notes mixed with extreme sour/brett smells. Also smells bready and slightly nutty. Super acidic, horse blanket taste with a puckering, lemony acidic finish. Amazing complexity, with subtleties and nuances revealed in each sip. Perfectly still in the mouth. A truly beautiful beer. dvsteenk (1), Belgium does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Sep 21, 2009 Bottle from Hopduvel Gent, fantastic wine-like nose, sourness not aggressive, but fine and elegant, smokey touch, wood ageing nicely blended in, top geuze!! | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 21, 2002 Updated: Dec 18, 20032001: Immense amount of dense, white foam which turns rocky and sticky. Classic sharp/sour aroma is dominant alongside minerals, underlying mustiness, bandage, candle wax, wood, and dryish. No barnyard here in this fresh bottle. Before this gets a chance to roll around my mouth I was smacked by the inevitable and whalloping sourness. Metallic, extremely dry, semi-complex, medicinal, very vinous, and very acidic. This is entirely too fresh. I made the mistake by drinking this on an empty stomach. The thought of this, paired with a fine cheese or dinner, is tantalizing. Perhaps I would have known that, if it was not for the mindless vintagers stamping the date uselessly on the cork. Am I missing something here or am I just an oblivious fool? | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 17, 2002 Absolutely brutal.. I was expecting a flat beer but was greeted by a big but ephemeral white rocky head of foam. Color is a beautiful full golden. Aroma is of oak and baryard. The first impression is the brutal, in-your-face sourness. It is the first beer that truly makes my mouth pucker. While your face contorts in agony of the extreme acidity, you can feel the taste of oak, grapefruit, white wine, and even a slight saltiness. The finish on this beer will also introduce to you the true meaning of dryness. This is certainly not a beer for wimps. It is also an undisputed world classic, and one of the best beers I’ve ever had in my life. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 11, 2004 Deep golden in color with a slight haze and a small white lacing atop a body missing any appearance of carbonation.Aroma starts with apples, tart yet fruity, switching over to small oak tree farm, then moving into a musty, sweaty, damp basement with notes of acidity and spice with a vinous like German white wine charcater character reminiscent of a Piesporter. Flavor is as complex as the aroma,apples,oak,fruit,sweet/sour,tart,acidic. Palate is very soothing over my tongue as this ends with a nice crisp dry finish. Marc (477), Yokosuka, Japan
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 2, 2002 Incredably complex. Barnyard and wet burlap in the nose along with a touch of lemongrass and dough. Big lively head over a cloudy hay colored body left swaths of laceing on the glass Bracingly sour flavor starting with citric acid and lemon pith. Incredably bright, notes of spearmint and sassafrass bark start to emerge from halfway through the glass alonge with a champegne-like mouth feel but with sticky doughy yeats acting as a foundation giveing this brew a solid foundation to work on. Very Dry in the finish (grape skins/tannins) drying every cornor of the mouth leaving you wanting more.
