The color is a light orange gold with a white head that ringed. A bit thin bodied. The carbonation is very mild. The flavor is primarily lactic sour. There are varying fruit notes, to accompany the earthy, Bretty, funkiness. Could be old mushrooms or sweat sox. Very interesting. Not an everyday drink, I think. Refreshing in an unusual way. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2007 This is my second experience with gueuzes, and I must say my first, which was with the Lindemans, was better. Pours a transluscent gold with a thin head that fades to a swirl of white film above the transluscent elixir. The aroma brought forth wet hay, along with other fimiliar barnyard scents, leather, some peppery notes, and towards the end of each wiff, a bit a pear sweetness. The flavour is immediately tart fruits leading quickly into sour lemon and ending with a bitter lingering, which is mild when compared to the acidic bite. The citrus flavours are surprisingly refreshing. Layered behind these intense palate rapers are all those wonderfully filthy barnyard notes along with some oak and peppery funk. Still there is nothing in this beer that seems to cut the intensity of the acidity. The palate is delightfully round full and tingly and finishes rather clean and dry, pulling moisture from the sides of the tongue. Pucker up and enjoy, if you can handle it. jlf278 (255), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 5/5 | 5/20 | Sep 11, 2007 12.7 oz bottle pours a beautiful golden elixir that looks wonderful in any light despite no head.
Smell is of sweaty socks , urine, mild vomit and a dash of febreeze. Mmmm.
Tastes like vinegar and corona with a hint of stomach acid. The tart vinegar sticks around with a slight malty sweetness. Palate is soft and supple with perfect carbonation. Could have finished it, but was not worth it. I’m hoping it was just infected. I’ll try to get my hands on another gueuze. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Pours a hazy orange color, with a small white head. Big, sour gueze smell waffles around the glass. alot of acidity and sour lemons are detectable. Classic Cantillon. Cheek puckering sour of course on the first sip. Sweet, tart fruits, acidity, and sourness although as it warmed it seemed to mellow out some. Pretty standard gueze, and as solid as it gets. Nothing super stands out, just represents the style extremely well. I’d expect nothing less from these guys. SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA
