Thanks DSG, this is totally something I have never tried. Pours orange with a medium off-white head, high complexity in the aroma, great acidity and floral notes, powerful funky tones of soaked leafs, fresh forest mushrooms and citrus peel, pleasant and enjoyable, flavor is very lemony with some olives, fruit sourness and french cheese, zesty and almost full bodied. Since it is my first gueuze it is quite hard to judge but the sourness in this one should be balanced with some sweetness (at least as long as I acquire the taste).

Bottle at (very near 55 degree) in a widemouth chalice. Pours a nice light gold with all kinds of stuff going on in the nose. I’m getting fruit / tart / and some brett-style yeast-ish nose. Nice sour with a bite at the back of the cheeks. Sour fruit like peach, apple, and some tart grapes. Nice refreshing sour! Not an everyday drinker, mind you... but find me a Gueuze that is.

Location: 12,7 oz bottle from State Line, 8/18/09 (Labeled Classic Gueze - Bottled in 2009) Not sure I’ve ever seen a beer with a cork under the cap, unusual...

Aroma: Sour fruits, apple, lemon, some funky yeast, tart and fruity
Appearance: Clear golden-orange color, with a fizzy white head that dissipates quickly
Flavor: Similar to the nose, sour, tart, fruit, yeast
Palate: Light and dry
Overall Impression: My first Gueze, so maybe I just don’t have the taste for these that others do, but I wasn’t overly impressed. It is an interesting beer, and I will try be sure to try this style again, but as of now, I must say, I’m not sure it’s quite what I had hoped for. I believe I have another Gueze in my bottle reserve, so I’ll have to see if that one changes my mind.
As for this beer, I found it to be a bit light of body, and overly sour, limiting my enjoyment of it a bit. Light, dry, funky, sour, and fruity. Look, I’ll give it plenty of credit for its complexity, and it is not a bad drink by any means, but it is not going to enter my upper-tier/favorite list. On the other hand, I’m curious enough by the raves this style receives to try a few more before I do anything as drastic as dismiss it.

Bottle - 2007. The aroma is sour, some flour, a lot of yeast and some fruit, very refreshing. The head is small, white and foamy-fizzy with a short duration. The body is orange. The taste started quite sour, then it gets softer. The finish is even softer which is a surprise because of the sour aroma. It tasted also light salty. The body is light, dry and with a lively carbonation. The finish is light astringent. A very nice gueuze, rather mild and not that sour.

2008 Bottle of the classic. Pours a clear gold with some medium bubbles and almost no head. Nose is full of lemon, barrel, funky yeast. Flavors are nice yeast funk, pleasant lemon sweet-tarts, dry Chardonnay, a little bit salty. Mouth is perfectly carbonated and smooth. Nothing wrong with this guy.

Bottle at Brouwer’s cafe in Seattle. Huge nose; tight acidic cider apples, lots of extra-sweaty, funky horseblanket, almost salty it’s so funky. and yet a soft, curranty vein courses through the heart of this beer, keeping it delicate despite all the surrounding funkiness. So funky it’s almost too much, yet at the same time not enough. Palate is salty, sweaty horseblanket, soured fruit and brett. Lean, tight, dry, and intimidating, but wonderful!
