Bottle from jessup plaza. CLoudy ruby pour with a very small thin white head. Aroma is earthy, cherry, with some oak notes. Very sour flavor of cherry, hints of oak and funk. Very sour. Very refreshing. Another enjoyable one from cantillon.

Bottle, 2007 vintage. Pours a bubbling clear deep cherry red. Nose in vinegar, oak and sour cherry. Nice cherry flavors along with a thin oak hint. Very acidic almost to a burn at times. Mouth is chalky with a long puckering finish.

2006 bottle, 3 years old. Pours a deep ruby red color with a very light haze. A small but dense head of light pink foam holds steadfast at the surface. Soapy sheets of lace mostly recede back into the body. The nose is centered around sour cherry, acidic lemon peel, farmhouse must, and earthen dust. Notes of old wood lend an oaky vanilla kiss to the citric acidity. The flavor is bracingly tart, with a strong sour lemon component intensifying the already potent bed of sour cherry. Earthy, woody must comes through at just the right level. The palate sports a crisp, lively carbonation that, along with the medium-light body, walks the line between refreshing dryness and puckering sourness. As with all things Cantillon, this is a fantastic beer.

750mL bottle. Pours transparent brownish red, with a thin off-white head. Sharp, bone dry aroma with lots of lactic acid, and sour cherry. Flavor is not quite as dry as the aroma; the lactate prevails but the cherry flavor stands up nicely. There are some lemon and grain notes in the background. Lots of acid in the finish, but its not mouth-puckering. One of the best Krieks I’ve had.

Enjoyed from an 11.2oz bottle in a champagne glass. The bottle is capped and then corked, allowing the drinker’s anticipation to build as he or she opens the bottle. The beer pours a beautiful red from the added juice and skins of the cherries. Also, if it can be said that tartness has a scent, it is noticeable here; but, perhaps that was just my own excitement to enjoy one of the world’s great lambics. the palate is slightly fruity up front, followed by a bracing tartness and bone-dry finish. Sourness also makes an appearance, happily revealing itself following its long-term build up in the aging tanks at Cantillon. Overall, probably not a beer that is for everyone, but one of the great products I’ve had the oppotunity to experience.

Notes from 4 ounce sample at Pizza Port Belgian Beer Fest in March 2009. A luscious red color. Aroma of alcohol, sherry, vinegar. Flavor is overwhelming sour/tart. This was one of the last beers I had at the festival (including a number of sour ales), but this one stood out by far as being sour to the extreme. Some cherry essence but again, the sourness overwhelms right through the finish. Yikes!

the aroma is too wild and funky, which is nothing compared to the taste. the beer just too sour, with nor flavor of cherry at all. the lambic is just to sour for my tastes.
