A Mes rate: 75cl bottle from Cantillon. Another one that we had to promise the very good people at Cantillon that we would stash until it was ready. Not quite so worth the wait as the Kriek but still mighty fine stuff. Aroma although decent is a little too funky for me to be truthful. Appearance is a slightly hazy wonderful blood red colour. Flavour is very sour with all the usual lambic characteristics and just a polite nod to the raspberries. Dry and tangy without the lick of sweetness at the finish that the Kriek had. In fact the finish is almost lemony. Not one for anyone who doesnt fully appreciate lambics but for someone who does you will know that this could be better. Very good beer but not Cantillons best.

20051012 2001, 750ml bottle at RLB YEHA-05 Murky, dark pink with fizzy pink head. Aroma had hints of berry, sure there was some nice brett and spicy yeast, and mint - in fact, I noted a distinct aroma of urinal cake. I’m not saying it was bad, that’s just what I smelled. Flavor is much more focused on berries and beer. Dry and rather harsh, sharp eff, sharp acidity. Really reminds of breakfast cereal with those dehydrated berries. I liked it, but it was the kookiest beer of the night for me.

2003 at Spuyten Beast of the Yeast. Wow, massive raspberry nose. Hugely tart. So much berry, this winner is all about doing fruit right. Up from 7-5-7-4-15

2001 bottle, the third Lou Pepe of the trifecta for me! surprisingly goldish yellowy color. light pinkish white head. tart and sour unripe raspberry aroma. tart and sour flavor but less raspberry/much fainter than I was expecting. makes sense though that the fruit flavor fades over time.

2002 vintage, sampled at the Yeha. Poured a cloudy pale red. Sour raspberry aroma. Taste is very sour with good raspberry flavor, much more fruit presence than other Cantillons I’ve had. Forms phlegm in the back of the throat.

Draught @ DBA in New York City. Deep cranberry red color, with a lightish pink head. Extremely rich, authentic and elegant raspberry aroma, with an apple core aroma underneath. Upon tasting, it had a very unpleasant and distracting apple like lambic character in the blend, which to me, showed more applely lambic flavor, than raspberry fruit. I’m a lambic beginner, but it just seemed well, not very complex. Just like the Lou Pepe Kriek, I wish an older blend was used (rather than just two year), yielding more tartness, but my biggest complaint is the flavor of the lambic blend, not the fruit.

2001 vintage. Pours a cloudy red color with a ring of offwhite lace. Excellent aroma of sour raspberries and cheese. Excellent flavor of raspberries and cheese with strong and dominant acidity. The body is light with a dry, dusty and cobwebby mouthfeel. Excellent lambic, the best from the Lou Pepes. Thanks Rich !

Very strong, but sweet at the same time, I liked it very good. But it was getting me too drunk. NIce colour. 2002.

[bottle from beers of europe] Pink with a fluffy pink head. This is extremely smelly, raspberrys, wet horsey, cheesey, sweaty lambic goodness. light bodied, sour finish.
