Beer smells slightly sour and fruity and sweet. It pours blood red which is pretty interesting if your used to regular beer. Flavor wise this a great beer. It’s sour, but not too sour, it’s fruity, but not to fruity. It’s very balanced. I can’t really say that there is any real problem with this beer. If you got the money give it a try. leaparsons (4748), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 6, 2005 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Red/pink in colour with no head after a short wait. Aromas are raspberry and vanilla with cheese, stinky feet and that Cantillon farmyard effect. Flavours are sour raspberry with soft cheese. Citrus acidicy jabbers your jowls. This is another good Cantillon. I have had all the Lou Pepe lambics now and this is as good as the others. mullet (801), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2005 2002 vintage, bottled 2004. Intensely deep pink-red colour, hazy and hardly any carbonation so it barely poured with any head and that didn’t last long at all. Amazingly strong raspberry aroma - wow! The fruit character really makes this beer - there’s just loads of raspberry jam and a fair bit of seed character. Yum! Otherwise the aroma is the typical Cantillon character with the emphasis on sweat and dried fish. There’s also a fair bit of raspberry character in the flavour and an intense lactic sourness but I think I’m coming to realise that a lot of Cantillon’s stuff doesn’t really have much else. Whereas the 750mL bottle of Oud Beersel Gueuze went like a flash, it became a bit of a chore to get through the entire bottle of this, as there really isn’t that much besides the fruit character and the searing acidity. It’s still a very, very good beer, it’s just not mindblowing. I think if I’d had a 200mL glass of this it would have gained a much higher rating. rauchbier (3003), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England

Long bone dry lambic finish with some bitter raspberry fruitiness lingering.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 27, 2005 Brilliant bright clear ruby, huge pink head that loudly and rapidly pops away to nothing. Smells like a Cantillon, which is to say it’s hugely sour and funky, cheesy, and musty. Faint whiff of raspberries, but not much fruit in nose. Initial taste is a massive burst of sour and fruit, face-clenchingly puckering. Cheesy, dusy, and musty, barnyard skunk, powerfully sour. Rasberries are slight, more in the finish. daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 28, 2005 Good stuff.. although at a heafty price. 2001 750ml bottle. Deep red/purple color with a very faint head. Aroma is tart with a rasberry permiation. Flavor is also tart with an initial pop of acidity followed by the rasberry. Dry and very user friendly. I would recommend this to anyone willing to spend that kind of money. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 11, 2005 From a 2001 vintage 750ml bottle. Very dark red body. Beautiful coloring. The head is a thin off white. Lively carbonation. The aroma is massive raspberries. Also hints of vanilla, must and wodo in the background. Not nearly as funky of an aroma as I had expected. Taste is mouth puckering and in your face. It has hints of leather and wood with a salty finish. The mouthfeel is sticky. The raspberries are barely tasted, but definitely in the aftertaste. A nice dry finish on the palate. Balsomaic vinegar notes are definitely here. As Joeh noted, the raspberries become more apparent as you drink more. While this is very sour, it is also complex and enjoyable. A very nice example of the style.
