Bottle, 2005: Pours red with a light pink head that quickly fizzles away. Aroma is very cherry - sweet with a subtle earthy funkiness. Taste, pretty sour... I guess on a sourness scale of 1 to 10 this rates a 7. Lots of cherry tartness, really like drinking sour cherry juice. Way up there with my favorite Lambics, multi-dimensional and complex in a way I can’t put my finger on or explain in words, this one is amazing.

2005 vintage. Pours a beautiful red, more red than usual Kriek or I just could be forgetting that others are this red too but either way it looks gorgeously bright. A fizzy pink head forms then quickly and audibly dissipates to the thinnest ring of bubbles. Brettanomyces noticeable from several feet away. When inhaling close to the glass I get very intense cherry aromas. Full, round, juicy cherries, the most I’ve experienced in a fruit lambic. Brett is obvious underneath providing a nutty and lemony character. The more this breathes and the warmer it becomes the funkiness increases with elements of horse and barnyard coming out. Some intense leather characteristics are also noted. So far this is the best lambic I’ve ever smelled. Just a huge cherry aroma blended perfectly with Lambic funk. Taste is, wow, super acidic. Very lemon like. Tartness and sourness is actually not that high. It’s there, to be sure, but the acidity blends into an intense fruit flavor that is more like tart cherries than the sourness I associate with a good Geueze. This is like eating straight cherry pie filling. Much juicier and less dry than I was expecting. A long, tart and sweet finish lingers on the tongue for many minutes. This is certainly the best fruit flavor I’ve experienced in a lambic. The cherries really stand out on their own among all the funk and acidity. This is just amazing.

’01 Bottle: Courtesy of pepsican...thanks Andy. Cloudy, ruby red pour with no head. The aroma is very intense, consisting of notes of vinegar, cherries and a subtle earthiness that I couldn’t really put my finger on. Very tart from the get-go...flavors of fine vinegar with exquisite cherry notes that finishes very dry and extremely tart. Unbelievable stuff...the sourness of the brew doesn’t at once detract from the wonderful flavors bounding about. Damn near perfect.

Draught 2005 Vintage (Pikkulintu,Helsinki)- A rich red in colour with a pink head. Tart and acidic aroma with the beautiful cherry scent being rather prominent. Deliciously tart, tangy, acidic taste with the cherries giving it an extremely satisfying sweetness. Goes down a treat. Exceptional.
