(label says 2001 vintage, cork says it was bottled in 2002) after i removed the bottle cap, there was a little liquid on the cork (which was soft) but this didnt seem to effect the beer. poured hazey deep red with good carbonation. Funky barnyard aromas noted before i even bring this to my nose. nose is oaky, dry sour cherries, vinegar. Flavor is more funky cherries, with notes of oak on the palate. Sourness is not as intense as its sister (the lou pepe frambroise) but equally enjoyable. Thanks to hopistotle420 for this gift bottle. Amazing stuff.

Cantillon Kriek 2002 "Lou Pepe".
Shady deep red blood orange color, small white to pink head. Sour and bitter almond cherry seed scent. Very sour cherry taste, no bitterness at all. The sour goes on all night!

Tap at Brouwers.

Pours a saturated light red with a perfect pink head, long-lived lovely fine bubbles that sip like cream. The sour cherry and barnyard aroma is well-reflected in the flavor; there a tremendous sour cherry juice explodes inside a latrine-dominated lambic. Hints of oak at the side of the palate, amply but not overly carbonated; less of that back-of-the-nose lambic burn than one might otherwise expect given the intensity of the lambic character. Very nice!

2003 bottle from The Belgian Room, NYC. This beer gains a lot as it warms. Funky sour aroma gives a blast of fresh cherries even 3 years (edit: 1 year) after bottling as the beer enters the mouth. Breathing through the mouth really amplifies the brilliant aroma. After a very brief cherry punch in the mouth, the beer proceeds into familiar sour lambic flavor before imparting a strong white wine muskiness in the finish. The muskiness fades as it warms, allowing more balanced flavors to shine through. More cherry in the finish as the beer coats the lips and leaves lots of flavors for the licking. Sourness wasn’t quite as intense or brutal as I’ve seen in other Cantillons, less acidic/vinegary/minerals, instead softer and smoother. Top-notch stuff.

Bottle: Courtesy of rudolf via Secret Santa. Huge funky sour/tart aroma with a hint of cherry. Pours a cloudy reddish-orange with a small pink head. Huge tart and sour flavors up front. Increased sourness than most Cantillons. Hints of cherry in the middle. Not very wood when compared to other Cantillons. Finishes with an increased sour presence. Absolutely awesome and ranks up there with the St. Lamvinus as my favorite lambic.

2001 Vintage corked and capped bottle. Pours a deep red garnet with a frothy and small pink head that mostly dissipates. Aroma is sour cherry and green berries, yeast (cellar, cobwebs), malt (straw), vinegar and lemon notes. Tongue tantalizing and mouth watering tart, sour bitter fruit (cherry, lemon zest), moderate acidity that increases as the beer temperature rises, the sweetness of the fruit is hidden, notes of fruit skin and oak. Medium bodied, dry and clean palate.

Special bottle for my 34th Bday, this did not disappoint for my second from this fine brewer. Big cherry aroma that is a little funky. Flavor continues among this vein with a cheese like sharpness in the profile, ending with a musty sourness that just begs you to take another drink. Rolling it over my tongue gave a nice velvet feel.
