2001 vintage pours a cherry red with a pink head and lace sheets. The aroma is funky like a Lambic and cherry like. The flavor is sour, acidic, funky, waves of cherry and lemon alternate, woody, a strange lingering phantom sweetness on the top of the tongue - sour on the sides, and well balanced. Palate is nice and cleansing to make the sourness less overbearing. Overall, this is very good. I will admit, I am not much into wild yeast, but this is still quite nice.

Sampled during Minnesota first annual Sourfest and shared by Badgerben. Pours a semi-hazy mahogany brew with a fizzy pinkish head that slowly dissipates to an off-white ring. Aroma of tart cherries, barnyard funk, some sour dough bread and light citrus. Taste is spritzy, medium bodied with flavors of yeast, cherries, a touch of vanilla and oak. Finish is semi-tart, dry with a metallic cherry aftertaste. Pretty much a solid Kriek.

Bottle w/ Maheu awhile back. A juicy, cherry filled tart brew. I recall it being a tad thin. But a balls out, tasty kriek. Cherry is the name of the game..

On draft at Zeno’s, Penn State. Poured beautiful deep red with lively pink head. Lots of sour cherries in the nose. Extremely tart, more so than I was expecting. Tartness and acidity mask a bit of the cherry flavor. Slightly disappointing.

Pours milky ruby red with thin pink rose head. Cherry and balsamic vinegar are prevailent in the nose, with lots of oak musty fall time prairie grass, rye bread and green walnut skin. Flavor is a revelation for me, I have had lambics before but nothing quite like this, tingly sour cherry skins so acidic it burns a little not quite a vinegar taste to it but definitely acidic. There are some funk notes in there but very pleasant and interesting, like the smell of a wet maple tree. Other notes I picked up were oak, vanilla, wheat, lime, grapefruit, mullberries that aren’t quite ready yet, and potatoe skin. Body is thin dry and so acidic it is impossible to detect alcohol content. With all of this talk of high acidity I think many people could be scared off by these reviews, but its really far less vinegar like than most wines, its almost more of a citric acid tingle. Very interesting, and very good.

2002 bottle. Poured deep, perfect deep garnet with a well-retained pinkish-eggshell head. The aroma was so tart it almost tinged my nose hairs.. sour cherry skins led with funky, abrasive, almost metallic sour vinegary notes in there too.. very rich. The flavor opened by burning the tip of the tongue with a bracing cherry vinegar impression.. more cherry skins and tart wheat rock the middle, with more vinegary notes finishing (which burns all the way to the stomach).. excellent stuff! Rough on the palate, but I really enjoyed it.. I haven’t had a beer this sharp in a while.
