ggaughan (94), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Luxembourg Oct 12, 2009 Bottle at Akkurat in Stockholm on a recent trip with family. We also tasted the Reed Gueuze Pinot Noir around the same time.
The beer poured a cloudy golden, slight straw color. Thick, thick head at first that ran away quickly to appear quickly flat after 30 seconds. Nose has earth tones, a bit bready and tart with some stone fruit notes. Taste was a nice mix of tart yet some definite fruit notes, peach, tropical and pineapple along with subtle wood tones. Excellent body and mouthfeel. Worth the wait to try it and worth savoring as we did.
kkearn (993), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2009 75cL bottle, at Akkurat. 2005 vintage
Pours hazy golden/straw color, topped with a big white head that fades quickly and doesn’t kick back up with swirling. Aroma is moderately tart with notes of lemon, orange, lactic acid, tropical fruit, pear, leather and earth, with some vinous notes. The flavor is more tart than the aroma, but acid still is not excessive. Lemon and earth hit the palate first, with background notes of wood, white grape, and earth. Mild carbonation. Lemon and lactic acid linger on the palate. Another excellent lambic from Cantillon!!
Moderately carbonated.
Lemon acidity lingers. Very drinkable
plovmand (1588), Helsinge, Denmark Sep 14, 2009 Bottle shared with Andreassen11 and Anker at Akkurat. Golden body with a small white head. Very acidic aroma with lots of citrus and fruit and lighter honey notes. The flavour is acidic sour grapes, citrus, lemon and light wood. Very dry texture. Extremely tart. Almost too heavy and acidic but very nice indeed. Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Sep 14, 2009 Bottle 2005 at Akkurat shared with Andreassen11 and plovmand.
Pours yellow with a white head.
It has a lovely dry aroma with notes of grape, a little bit of humid cellar and the characteristic fruitiness of the muscat grapes along with its sweetness.
The flavour is dry and very acidic with intense lemon notes, accompanied with a little grape and wood.
It has a long sour finish with bitter notes. MaxxDaddy (261), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jun 22, 2009 Rating #250! I’ve finally hit the quarter-pole. Big thanks to omhper offering to split this bad boy with us @ Akkurat. Pours hazy gold with white head. The aroma is truly something to behold here. The single grapiest aroma I’ve ever gotten from a beer, along with sour grapefruit as well. Like an amped up Vigneronne or Castleton. The taste comes up with more grapes and grapefruit and big sour funk. Really bold flavor here and finishes quite dry. Definitely a different beast than Vigneronne and one of the best lambics I’ve had the pleasure of drinking. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan May 6, 2009 Huge aroma of grapes, citrus, peaches. Very, very sour, with citrus and grape and funky barnyard yeast and a long-resonating fruitiness. Very complex. Thanks so much to Omhper.
