Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Bright red with a pink head. Fluffy, champagne-like carbonation. Lightish yet solid body. Very zingy and tart. Some acidity and bile to give it depth. Quite a bit of sourness to boot. Raspberries were faint and in the background. Salty finish. Dynamic, refreshing and tasty.

Bottle 37,5 cl. Bottled 4/9 2007. Pours with a fizzy sound a hazy red (orange)with a sparkling pink fading head. The nose is fresh - bitter with sweet berries and notes of straw. The taste is sour sour sour in that special Cantillon way - Berries, wet hay, cloves and something like lactose. Finish is dry and bitter with rasberry-notes

Pink, with light pinkish head. Aroma is spicy, and foul, like equal parts ground pepper and rat turds. Taste starts as it smells, and then washes with intensely tart raspberry. Cutting acidity almost warms as it goes down. Taste fades into sweaty brett. $11/12oz

Bottle. Golden/pale red color with a small white head. Aroma: Very sour, barnyard, hay, cheese, faint tart raspberries, and wood. Flavor: Very sour and tart, faint raspberries, acidic, barnyard and cheese. Dry finish. I would actually have liked a bit more raspberries. Not bad at all, but it will surely give me stomach burn.

From the Northcoast Coop this set me back a full $13.49 for 650 ml bottle. Poured a cloudy red with small off-white head and pink tinges on the bubbles. Nose is sour and clearly of raspberries. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, and favor is a great sour note with raspberry sweetness backing it up. Simply sublime.
