Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 09. Pours pink. Electric pink. Hawaiian Punch pink. Tons of fruit. Strawberry, raspberry, and cherries - this is like a Jolly Rancher in a glass. Tart, but over the top, with no grassiness or funk to counter. Meh.

Aroma is sour. The flavor screams cherry. Behind that are dry whispers of oak and a sourness that at times made me think of cranberries.

Tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood ’09. Red with a thin pink head. Aroma is sweet and sour berries with some maltiness and funk evident as well. The flavor is intense, with fruity sour berries, barnyard funk, earth, and a very dry oak finish that sticks with you. Very drinkable and complex despite its intensity.

12oz, corked bottle dated 3/26/09, from grape & gourmet. pours a bright, ruby red with a beautiful, rosey pink head that completely fades leaving mild lacing. aroma is wonderful with tart berries, sour cherry, red wine vinegar, and mild funk with a hint of caramel sweetness peaking through. flavor is great as well with a beautiful balance of tart, lip puckering raspberry, sour cherry, lemon zest, and vinegar with earthy funk and mild barnyard and hints of sweet floral esters and vanilla cream. palate is crisp and sparkling on the toungue with a dry, tart, berry finish. overall, an excellent fruit lambic that i’d love to try with a couple of years on it.

It’s a nice looking pinkish-red hue with a solid head retention. The smell is strong berries, raspberry and otherwise. The taste is very, very strong berries with a nice punch of tartness. Incredibly bubbly in the mouth, delicious overall beer. Not a perfect sour but really good.

375 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market, Cary, NC. Bottled in 2008. Pours a slightly hazy deep ruby color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of dry peppery wood notes with dry funk and raspberries. Taste is dry funkiness with citrus, dry berry notes, a bit of pepper and leafiness. Smooth, tart. Medium bodied.

Bottled Oct 1, 2008. Consumed Nov 18, 2009. pours a dark pink with a white head. Aroma of socks, leather, tart cherries, wet dog. Flavor is tight. Really tart raspberries or cherries, funky cheese, toast. For me, this is a perfectly balanced lambic-fruit beer. Nice crisp and dry mouthfeel. Beyond refreshing. This beer is awesome.

1997 Vintage from the Tampa Crew friends. Pours hectic red brown color with minimal head. Nose is raspberry, more funk than George Clinton, and yeasty vinegar. Flavor is similar with enough sweet raspberry to be sweet and enough sour tart funk to be sour. Incredibly balanced, and I do not like sours, generally. Excellent, and makes me curious about Cantillion.
