Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Wow, this beer was sour! I really wasn’t expecting this flavor, although at first sip I didn’t enjoy it, but as I sip more, I started tasting more flavor. I can’t say I loved this, but I didn’t hate it. A very fruity beer with a sour bite.

Hazy orange-red. The aroma is sour with an overlay of sweet raspberries. Wonderful tart fruity taste with yeast, sour grapes and spices. Even a little sweetness. Brings back memories of Brussels and the Cantillon brewery. Drank this with roast turkey and Christmas pudding. Just the job.

Pours a ruby red with pink foam. Aroma is sweet fruit and citric acid. Truly dominant taste indeed, inflecting a strong bitter, sour and acidic flavor, packed with cassis. Tart, puzzles the palate, levels the lingus. Nice beer here. Sampled from a 750ml bottle purchased at Brickskellar in Washington, DC. Love the complexity.

Poured from a 2005 bottle, the aroma is filled with raspberry skins and seeds. The aroma is cloudy, slightly orangish pink with a poppy head that fades away quickly. The flavor is massivley sour. I really don’t like it, but I cannot pan the beer simply because the style isn’t for me. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin, but crisp and pleseant. Overall, I could not finish it but the lambic style simply isn’t for me.

Was given a small sample by random. Honestly, not my type of brew. The vinegar aroma alone should have warned me. I like some belgians but never have I had one so fitting for salad dressing.

Naked girl is sitting on some dude while he pets her and she looks like Venus with arms. Pop the lid to reveal a cork, blast, now I must get the wine bottle cork puller. Opening lambics is a process all it’s own. Cork out and it smells like a sour fruit drink, a little perfumy. Pours like thick apple juice in my steeler stein. There is muck in the dimpled bottom of the bottle. Appearance of cloudy darker apple cider or juice. No bubbles in the brew. Very flat, flat impressing first taste. I don’t really think this is a beer. A sour, rotten cranberry flavor that is nothing like I have ever had, but in a good way. I’m not sure if there is actually carbonation in there or if it’s just my taste buds shrinking up. Quite an experience. The closest thing I can relate this to is drinking the red wine vinegar and oil mix grandma used to put on the endive. The flavors are so overwhelming that you would never envision any alcohol whatsoever in there. Finish is not bitter nor lingering but a finish does signal relief to my uvula. Very unlike any beer I have ever tasted. No description in the space provided here could ever do this drink justice. I’m going to put this in the same class of beers as bitter stouts and double IPA; beer that you must get used to - to appreciate. Definitely not for the faint of heart who gags easily. Even tho the flavor was odd, I find myself mysteriously wanting another bottle! Quite stimulating.

Bottle, 2002. Really fresh raspberriy aroma, almost more raspberry than raspberries themselves! Crisp aroma. Head with big bubbles, pink-orange-red colour. Dry, emancipating taste with some apples and grapefruit. Doesn’t really taste raspberries actually, but a very good beer.

I’ve had other fraboise before, but this one didn’t do much for me. It seemed to taste like very little to me, and I felt that it would have benefited from signficantly more fruit character. The color is a cloudy brown. If you take Bud Light, throw in a handful of skittles, and wait; you’ll get the same color (don’t ask me how I know this, but trust me; it is not a recent experience). Not attractive. Not at all red like other framboise I’ve tried. This beer smells slightly sweet, and smells a lot like champagne. The taste is sour on the tip of my tongue, but otherwise not very flavorful. I expected more fruitiness from a framboise.
