Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

375ml bottle. Clear reddish pink with thin pink head. Sour aroma with some red fruits, but mostly sour lemons. Oh man, this is just way too sour. There is some residual sweetness from the fruit. I would prefer some more depth. Sweetness on end is pretty nice. It really isn’t that pleasant to drink and I don’t find it interesting enough. Back to the Boon and De Cam I guess.

Aroma is fruity, raspberries, oak, sourness, nutty, celery, brown sugar and some barnyard notes. Very cloudy orange with a few floaties and a thin, white head. Intensely sour at first. The flavor just explodes in your mouth and forces your face into a pucker. Then other flavors come out, a nutty raspberry malt with a touch of chocolate. Fairly acidic with a mineral finish and crisp but lacking much carbonation.

Bottled in 2004. Pours blood orange into a tumbler. Slight raspberry, and sour firecracker notes. No head. Slightly flat, upfront sour pepper with a lasting bitter sulphur finish with just a hint of raspberry at the end. Didn’t know it was 2004 until I popped the cork -- would like to taste fresh.

0,375 l bottle. Orange-amber color, no head. Rose, raspberry, sulfur, leather and also some sweetness in the aroma. Very acidic flavor with raspberry, learthe and lemon. Raspberry, leather, lemon and acid in the finish. Good aroma. Raspberry is somewhat overpovering in the flavor.

750mL bottle, 2005 vintage. Dark red-orange with a medium sized fizzy white head. Cow patty and damp vegetation cover a deep acetic raspberry aroma. Phenolic character up front, cidery raspberry flavors collide with a burgeoning acetic sourness and musty Brett. Heavy residual astringent tartness in the finish. Mouthfeel is very dry.

Pours a soda pop pink with a quickly fizzing champagne-like head. Aroma is intensely sour with a huge amount of raspberries. Body is intensely light and dry. Flavors are all ras and acid with very little in the way of funky barnyard aromas. The finish is bone dry and quick. Nice framboise but I would have liked a little more of the lambic character to shine through.

2004 750 ml bottle from ClarkVV. Pours a hazy copper color with a small white head. Nose smells of light fruit and brett. A sour touch overwelms everything around it. Palate is sour and fresh. A nice crispness to the beer. the flavor is 100% brett and wild yeast. A nice sourness and lots of sour feelings to it. Bits of fruit attempt tp save the day but the sourness is not to be tampered with. A sour beer this shall remain happily.

12-oz. corked and capped bottle. Pours a hazy ruby with some orange notes, a foamy-frothy pink head that mostly dissipates. Aroma is fruity berries (raspberry), citrus notes (lemon), malt, yeast, grass, hay and straw. Tart, acidic green raspberries with a lemon zing that forces the saliva glands into action. Medium bodied and fizzy, dry palate.
