Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

after a super pleasant experience with a girardin framboise, i figured i better continue with a cantillon also made with raspberries. clash of the titans.. anyway. 75 cl bottle 2004 on the cork. all by myself while wathcing a taped lecture on string theory and quantum physics. orange faded reddish color, small white head. aroma is stable, not much discernible fruit in there, but lots of sour, leather, stable etc. quite typical cantillon aroma. flavor is quite citric, excessively dry, but still the flavor is refreshing and you get hints of fruits rounding off the dry citric sourness. palate is prickly and very nice. overall the impression is of concentrated fresh lemon juice (no added water), with stuff added for breath and depth. grapefruit, raspberries primarily.

Just wasn’t a fan of this at all. Mauve colored pour with a small ivory head. Aroma and flavor exhibit tart raspberry, barnyard funk, lemon peel, and vinegar. This one had the incredible mouth-puckering sour quality but lacked any real depth that I’ve had with the more exceptional examples of the style. Medium mouthfeel.

Glass:Taster.
Appearance:Hazy amber/red pour with a thin off white head.
Aroma:Heavy funk with raspberries and vinegar.
Flavor:Extremely sour with a tart raspberry finish.
Palate:Light body with solid carbonation.
Overall:Excellent age on this one made for a great sour flavor. Wish I had a few.

Bottle. Pours a deep hazy brown with a small white head that all but vanishes in the first moments in the glass. Musky attic, raspberries, vinegar, wood, and a light funk. Medium body. Tart, and an interesting back and forth interplay with tart and sweet raspberries and bretty funk. Finishes with that lovely long lingering Cantillon acid.

Hazy strawberry/amber color with a thin white head. Aroma of wheat, spice, vinegar, and sour fruits/berries. This beer was about halfway through a pretty good beer tasting and I just love these outrageously sour beers at that point for a good switch-up. Taste is almost painfully sour raspberry but I couldn’t stop drinking it.

375ml bottle 2008. Pours dark pink with light pink head. Barnyard funky aroma with sweet raspberry undertones. Very sour with a hint of tart raspberries. Acidic, dry finish. Light body with lively carbonation.

Bottled 375ml. Courtesy of kappldav123. It pours a pinkish copper beer with a quick diminishing fizzy off white head. The aroma is mainly of ammonia and raspberry. Very sour taste. Not enough balanced to my liking. Dry finish. Thanks kappldav123!

Bottle. Pours just like described in the description above, onion-skin color, just a touch of pink showing through, no head at all. First whiff hits you with a sour note, vinegar and a very subtle horse blanket hiding in the background. Sour notes make you pucker a bit, vinegar note is still there but not as noticeable, raspberries barely make their presence known. Finish is acidic, sour and really takes it’s toll on your tastebuds.
