Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Bottle. Pours just like described in the description above, onion-skin color, just a touch of pink showing through, no head at all. First whiff hits you with a sour note, vinegar and a very subtle horse blanket hiding in the background. Sour notes make you pucker a bit, vinegar note is still there but not as noticeable, raspberries barely make their presence known. Finish is acidic, sour and really takes it’s toll on your tastebuds.

pours ruby, fine pink head. very strong fresh raspberry aroma with the dry sour lambic-y-ness underneath. also lots of yeast. taste is more sour than expected with a bright raspberry body. finishes very dry, with a long sour and candy-sweet finish. fizzy, but not overly carbonated. this is good, the fruit provides sweetness and flavor without taking over the beer, but it is so damn sour.

2000 vintage @ DHVL. Pours orange with a quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is very sweet raspberry, which is a bit curious for a lambic this old. Well, the taste is radically different and massively sour. Some raspberry taste in there, but man is it funky. Moderate lingering sour. Very tasty stuff.

Bottle. It pours a hazy orange colour with no head. The aroma is nice and dry with notes of rosehip, grape and weak notes of raspberries and humid cellar. I know its supposed to have a raspberry and not rosehip aroma but the fermentation must have tricked it. It’s lovely though! Flavour is extremely acidic with grape, rosehip and woody notes. Its a bit flat but dry, sour and delicious!

2008 vintage bottle Pours out a crisp ruby topped with a small pink head. Aroma of sourness some berries and a little wood. Tast was more of the raspberries and tartness. A tasty one.

2004 vintage pours copper with gold edges and tiny white head. The aroma is noticed from feet away as I pour my glass with assertive notes of berries. A closer inspection yields more sweet notes mixing with funkiness – nearing barnyard, hay and more berry sweetness. Nice aroma with plenty of depth and things going on. The taste starts tart and acidic then notes of berry surface. It evens out into the finish with the addition of modest funk and wet bails of hay. I thought I heard this doesn’t age well. It seems to me to be good and possibly getting better.

First the wonderfull aromas are very strong when the bottle got opened. Pours a wonderfull bright red color and slightly hazy with a light pink head. Aromas are fruity, floral and hoppy. The flavors are sour fruits, with mostly rasberry and hops, not sweet but sour bitterness. Very easy to drink and very refreshing, pleasent. Really enjoyed it.

Bottle shared by Anker. Hazy orange body, no head. Aroma is sour, dust and som kind of berries. Flavor sour, citrus. A bit flat. not my favorite from Cantillon.
