| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2006 Bottle White/blond, murky body. Slightly off-white, rocky head. Very large head, well lasting, which is quite remarkable for a Cantillon - probably due to the age (was bottled in 2001). Aroma of a lambic and wheat beer. Moderately sour, lightly sweet, fruity flavour. Typical Cantillon sourness. The flavour is ok, but not overwhelming by a good lambic-fruit combination. But it’s very subtle and well balanced. kepano (239), Meudon, France
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2006 After only a small sample of Sebastian’s (DerDoppelbock) begging powers, Jean at Cantillon was generous enough to offer a bottle of his sea buckthorn lambic destined for Helsinki. We made it our final tasting of the evening after a rather remarkable suite of lambics highlighted by ancient De Trochs and Belle-Vue Sélection. Poured, its lurid yellow color was shrouded as a witbier, and topped of a generous white lather. The scent had a classic touch of Cantillon, that sour must that permeates their range. There’s a distinctly bitter aroma I can only attribute to the sea buckthorn berries, a fruit I am unfamiliar with and unique in a quality I can’t quite describe. Added to the nose is a complex and arid mix of Gruyère, hazelnuts and manure. The flavor was again dominated by the enigmatic fruit, a bitter sensation reminiscent of red currant added to the puckering explosion of lemon in oak. Overall an interesting experiment, but one that I may have enjoyed more out of the context of our fabulous tasting and definitely would have had I a stronger connection with the fruit. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 11, 2006 Straw yellow. Dense off-white bubbles. Alluring musty cedar, starfruit, slate, medicine, and musty book aromatics. Hints of honeydew melon and matchsticks. Tight jolt of medicinal brett inundates the palate alongside a crushed pea and increasingly musty cedar backdrop. Lemon rind and apple must acidity arouse the appetite and accompany the dried leather and brettt astringency, which continually tugs on the palate. Soothing flower petals caress the palate and quell the raspy brett, and paves the way for a chalky and minerally harshness. Less dry than it is oaky, as the oak lends a gritty textural sweep. Finishes tart, but not bracingly so, with unripe peach acidity complementing the tight oak grip. Not overly adventurous in the flavor dept., but the aroma is delightfully pungent and funky, and is thus pretty nice overall. Thanks for sharing, Clark! radiomgb (2068), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 25, 2006 375ml bottle brewed in 2002 from <a
href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/finland/ target=blank>One Pint Pub in Helsinki, Finland. Light golden in colour, thing white head, some leftover lacing. The aroma had a soft sourness, quite floral, lightly acidic, lemons, musty, some barnyard. The flavour is musty and acidic, lightly sweet from the buckthorn berries, very dry, tart and citrusy. A bit sticky in the mouthm medium body, high carbonation. Finishes with a floral bitterness, long with some acidity. The dryness comes in at the very end. Unbelievable and surely one of the best Cantillons made. ante (2967), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Bottle. Hazy golden, low creamy head. Strong, citric, tart aroma of wood, dust and wormwood. Sourish and tart flavour of hay, wood, lemonrind and rowanberries. Puckering sour and tart aftertaste of citric fruit. Hardcore lambic! Huge thanks to oh6gdx! omhper (12298), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 13, 2006 [Bottled, thanks oh6gdx!] Cloudy pale yellow, rich airy head. Distinct citric Cantillon aroma with some perfumy soap added. Expectedly dry and vinegary with lively mouthfeel. I have not tasted these berries, but the berry character in this lambic is less evident than the one in Soleil de Minuit. It does however have an additional light fruitiness and a light bitterness. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 22, 2006 Dark yellow colored, slightly hazy appearance. Sourness, drought and slight berries in aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Strongly dry and sour flavor with hints of some berries, lasting aftertaste does not differ very much of beginning.
