Clear dark amber, huge frothy head, wonderful lace. And yet this one just does not work for me. Nose of orange, orange peel, and malts. Taste is orange, metalic and artificial flavors, caramel in the background, and a little bitterness. Chewy, sure, but too dry. A little bitterness emerges in the finish after several miutes, but mostly just a malty orange soda. I was surprised by how good the IPA was. This is close but somehow does not work. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Bottle: Poured with the classic american amber ale appeal ... deep bornze, bubbly and well-headed. The aroma is thick, almost ashy. Wow, what a big body, just like their IPA, this is as chewy as an old piece of gum. The flavor is thick with caramel and candy, Bartlett pear, bit of sugar. Warm. Nice and big for the style. Well done. (#3059, 8/17/2007) JAF737300 (797), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 13, 2007 POured medium amber with nice notes of malt on the nose. It gives you a deeper sense of some citrus with a sweeter finish on the palate. All this while drinking rather smooth. Aurelius (2654), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Kinda stinky cereal malt aroma. Over-carbonated. Big head, good label, lightly hazy, medium PA-coloring. Don’t know that I’d call this a ’Dark Lager’ - it’s really no darker than say, Yuengling. Makes a big icecream head. Tart, seedy. Very, very fizzy. Finishes quick and moderately sugary. From the bottle. A mishmash. I’m really a bit puzzled, looking at the other ratings, which say things like ’mahogany’ and ’dark amber’. This beer is clearly labeled ’Fisherman’s Brew’ but is only a medium orange-amber. freekyp (903), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA

Resiny notes encapsule more subtle tannic leathery notes. Malt character is also earthy reminiscent of a brown ale, but more flavor forward. Hops are balanced but burst through at the finish fading quickly into the background. Similar is taste to an altbier, this is a great unexpected entry. CamdenD (613), Madrid, Spain
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Pretty average -- as the score indicates. Almost too flavorful for its style too sweet and sugary. Pours a nice dark mahogany brown with good lasting head. Smell is malt and brown sugar. The taste -- too syrupy.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Tap. A nice alternative both beer-wise and price-wise to the basic tap offerings at our MA restaurant. Dark amber with a bit of sweetness and a fairly hearty, tosted biscuity quality with offsetting spiciness. Mild carbonation. Went well with our boiled lobsters.
