| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 15, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, dark amber body with a smallish, white head.
Smell: Lightly sweet-smelling nose of bready malts and, to a lesser degree, caramel with dark fruit notes of a nose-tingling waft of alcohol.
Taste: Toasted, multi-grain bread slathered in sweetish dark caramel sauce. Raisin and plum fruitiness. Tiny bit of hop bitterness. Some unrestrained, peppery fusels roaming free throughout the taste. In the tailed, there’s a rebound of toasted malt that develops into a growing, somewhat harsh graininess that dominates the drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: It’s not exactly the most graceful, adroit dopplebock on the dopple block. The slightly astringent graininess in the latter half mars the overall experience. Maverick34 (716), New York, USA
