| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2008 Pours a dark blackish-brown with a thin, short-lived head and a sweet licorice-allsort aroma. Tastes very spicy and smoky, not particularly roasty or thick, more porter-like than anything. Very spicy, lots of nutmeg, cinnamon, a bit of a peppery character, some molasses, touch of pulpy pumpkin but could just DMS. Thin body, not a lot of carb. This is definitely an interesting drink, I can understand the lack of roastiness to let the spices work through, but could use a touch more in the way of body/head. ilovedarkbeer (1369), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a moderate tan head that lasted until mid-glass and left partial lace. The pour looked a bit thin for a stout. Pleasant aroma of pumpkin, mild spice, and just a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is fairly muted with pumpkin, roasted malt and spice all present. Its as if the brewers had trouble deciding on whether to go full out on brewing a stout or a pumpkin beer, and went part way on each, resulting in something that is unfortunately a bit bland. As the beer warms, some smokiness emerges in the flavor, especially in the aftertaste. A bit thin bodied for a stout. A very interesting idea for a beer, and one that could really be a knock-out. This one just needs some more oomph. BMan1113VR (2960), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA

Pours with a large, frothy, off-white head and a deep brown body. Good retention and decenet lacing. Aroma of pumpkin, allspice, horse manure, chocolate and pie crust. Taste is astringent allspice, with pumpkin and light coffee grounds. Very thin and watery mouthfeel with light carbonation. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2008 12oz from MrBendo - thanks, Todd! Roasted malt and spice in the nose, somewhat reminiscent of the Cottonwood pumpkin brew. Oily black pour, minimal tan head and minor retention. The body is a bit thin, and I’m a bit unconvinced as to the quality of the base stout (at times I thought it was closer to a smoked ale). Pumpkin is in there, but very subtly so - and that’s the treat here. OldMrCrow (1206), Seattle, Washington, USA

Doggone it, this thing was good. I’m not a huge pumpkin pie fan and not a huge pumpkin ale fan, but...wow. This one smells like chocolate pumpkin pie, but the flavors are restrained enough to make the whole thing absolutely delightful. Nutmeg, pumpkin, mulling spices....but a bloody solid stout in its own right, bits of smoke....nice. Really nice! This one is coming out way higher than I expected. nhorween (641), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2008 Cask at Blind Tiger. Super dark pour. I liked having this on cask, but I think the carbonation might’ve really benefitted this beer. Roast and smokey with the pumpkin a subtle balancing note to the bitter chocolate. Pretty balanced overall, and it doesn’t hit you over the head with the spices or the pumpkin. Not bad, in small doses.
