Sweet complex pumpkin potpourri and cherry nose has some cinnamon and dark chocolate notes. Body starts a little thinner but has nice earthy dark caramel sweetness and good pumpkin and spice balance. Finishes a little drier with a slightly lingering roasted maltiness. Very unique and well-made. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 13, 2007 This is a really fun brew, especially on tap. Pours dark, like a stout, with a formidable head. Smells of cinnamon, malts, and cloves. The flavor is remarkably complex, with hints of chocolate, pumpkin, alcohol, and strong malts. Very good, because it retains its stout-ness while embodying a lot of the pumpkin-ness. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Bottle; Pours a very dark brown, not quite a true black, with an auburn/ burnt sienna head. Aroma of coffee, nutmeg, allspice, and maybe cardamom? Flavor of harvest spices and root vegetables come through, with hints of coffee. I was pleasantly suprised with this brew; not too spicy, not over the top with the pumpkin. A quality stout overall, and I would def get this again if it were available. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice deep black with a frothy shiny beige head and some lace. Aroma is good chocolate notes light coffee, some vegetable and spice, light nutmeg and earth- kinda reminds me of a pumpkin pie muffin or something. Light chocolate flavor, some mild roasted barley, light sweetness with a drying acrid bitterness in the end- som light pumpkin flavors. Overall a bit on the thin side but the pumpkin stuff is kept in check and doesnt overwhelm. Nice pumpkin beer interpretation. I liked it. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2007 A mid-sized, actively fizzing, cola-brown head slowly dissipates. The body completely revealed is an opaque, very dark brown/near black. Light auburn hints peek out from the chocolatey elixir. Allspice, cinnamon and light clove greet me in a satisfactory nose. Beyond the pumpkin typified, roasty and bready grains and dark fruits peek out. I really wasn’t expecting this much spice, but I dig it so far. Very mild coffee, chocolate mousse, tar, sweet smoke and burned grass conclude the aromatic festivities. Very mild ginger and earthy pumpkin bounce around the outskirts of the scent-array. Alcohol is nowhere to be found, a great accomplishment considering the semi-robust strength indicated. The flavor is mild, a mesmerizing continuation of the aforementioned. Spice and smoke clear the path for roasted malt, peanut butter chocolates and mild raspberry and raisin essences. Light Coca-Cola tartness grows with each warming sip. Acidity present is quite bold for the style, and while it does seem to overly disperse the flavors across the palate, it also makes this far more interesting than it would be without the prickly gaps between spice and malt. Mild hoppiness adds greatly to this effect. Pumpkin notes are minor, as they were in the nose, but much more would likely throw this too far into an unpleasant realm of dark beer confusion. The finish is lightly smoky, lightly bitter, moderately roasty and sweet, very slowly and only partially drying as candied molasses notes linger on all by their lonesome. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, well-dispersed, watery at times, sticky at others; altogether incredibly unique(much moreso than anticipated). Carbonation is fizzy but fun. A very tasty brew, one to look out for should it return next year.
