Commercial Description:
After researching brewing styles from the turn of the last century, Capital has created an outstanding, mild, American-style beer. This pilsner beer comes from an old Wisconsin recipe, circa 1900, and has a smoothness that the big beer companies will envy.

Golden yellow, thin white head. Aroma of sweet malts, bread, mild fruit and grassy hops. Taste of grassy hops, apricot, lemon with some vegetal properties. Body is semi-watery, semi-dry and semi-grainy. Since this beer has been retired for awhile, I’d say my bottle was semi-old but it seems to have aged okay.

Another nice beer from Capital-light bodied, pours a dull golden colour with plenty of malted aromas and a very soft touch of hops to give it a little more life at the end. Overall, very well balanced, but not enough excitement for me.

Dark golden pour with a foamy white medium sized head that leaves good retetion. Aromas of spicy hops accompanied by some flowery hops and light clover. Tasted of medium bitter hops and had lots of good malt character. I don’t normally care for Pils, but Capital did this one pretty good.

Mid-golden, approaching amber, with a slight haze and a fluffy white head that settles to a halo and scummy islands. A herbal, grassy aroma fades gently into chewy-sweet toffee with almond notes. Flavor is well-balanced with a gentle hop bittering (mildly sour) atop the sweet, caramel malt base. Failry fat-bodied for a Pils, but I’m not judging to style. Faint bitterness lingers. Had I been around in 1900, I would have had more than my share of this beer.

Slightly cloudy light yellow pour with almost no head. Sweety, grainy malt on the nose. Grain taste and dry finish.

Kind a of a German-style pils, a very pale color and a fritzy light body and dry bitterness as opposed to herbal or floral. Light body, mild malt that has touches of honey and tea flavors. Not bad.

This is one of my favorite capital brewery beers. Great for drinking on warm summer nights. I can’t wait to get back to Madison to have some.

A 1900 era pilsner beer? Bring it on! Straight from a bottle is pours a clear yellow a lot of bubbles flowing within. It has a light stringy lace. Smell is sweet malt, very crisp with grassy-like hops. Taste is sweet, a touch of citrus barley malt but still sweet with a decent bitterness. Feel is medium, smooth and an airy dryness during the finish. This is close to pilsner beers produced during pre-Prohibition years but not as clear as today’s filtered beers. Still, very good.
