Commercial Description:
After researching brewing styles from the turn of the last century, Capital has created an outstanding, mild, American-style beer. This pilsner beer comes from an old Wisconsin recipe, circa 1900, and has a smoothness that the big beer companies will envy.

Light yellow color. Smell of sugar, malt, yeast, licorice and banana. Taste of yeast and sweet bananas. I kind of like it but wont drink it all the time.

Bottled. Light, not terrible, but a bit lighter than I like. Decent aroma, needs more hops to the flavor.

Had this one bottled. Clear, deep yellow pour with a thick head. Nose had some citrus and malts, with a little hoppiness. Light, but with an off note I could neither place nor liked. Average.

Bottled. Poured a clear, bright golden with a dense cap of white head. Nose was heavily bready with hints of lemon and other sweet malts. Flavor is certainly on the sweeter side with syrupy dough, lemonheads, light veggie, and light floral bitterness. Smooth malts, but the hops are a bit clunky in creating their bitterness. Lighter-bodied. Veggies and a solid dose of uber-sweet malts at the finish. This was drinkable, but powerfully average.

Pale malts, a little bit of fruity sweetness. Medium bodied for a pilsner - seems somewhat syrupy. Grainy finish. Pretty smooth and enjoyable, although really nothing special. All in all considering this is an old recipe from 1900 it is pretty good.

Coming straight off the Capital special pilsener or whatever I have to say that there’s not much of a difference here. It’s slightly sweeter in flavor but after about 5 minutes you can’t tell the difference. It’s still relatively good and there’s a little nicer malty aroma.

In the bottle. Pours deep golden yellow with a large white foamy head. Has a subtle sweet apple fruity aroma. Flavor is all corn. Mildly hopped and medium carbonation. I’m really starting to enjoy the experience of these "artifact" beers, but I don’t think the style is something I could have consumed everyday. So far, of those I’ve tried, I think the Fountain City beer is the best archival brew.

Pours a nice golden yellow. Aromas of grains, hops. Crisp hop bitterness and light finish.
