Pours an lightly filtered, yellow/rosy-orange hue, with an initial bubbly white head that is fleeting and does not lace. Aroma of soft, sweet grass, bits of herbs, light vanilla and honey. Hints of toasted grain as well. Flavor begins with plenty of pils malt, soft, honeyish and quite flavorful. Some notes of lightly crisp lager yeast, a bit of lemons and oranges and a smooth, honeyish finish. Not complex, nor is it terribly hoppy for a pils, but the malting is well-done, I thought, and though it does get quite watery, I find no off-flavors. The corn flavor by-products of the pils malt are present, as some note, but it is not anything out of style, IMO. Light body, very drinkable. Low carbonation for the style. I bet this stuff would be killer fresh on draught. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Apr 16, 2005 Despite a somewhat hazy appearance, this beer has a beautiful peach-amber color. Aroma is a simple malt but rather subdued. Flavor is also based on simple maltiness, with a bit more hops than in the aroma. It’s interesting to conceptualize of this beer as being from around 1900, since it includes many elements that eventually became the heart of the American mass-production beer industry and the infamous "pale lager" category. This is especially true with respect to the corn flavor as referred to in several other ratings; other analogs are the slightly gritty aftertaste, and cloying watered-down mouthfeel balanced in the positive by lively small carbonation. Although this beer shows many elements of a pale lager, the deep color would seem to preclude it from that category. Thank you Capital, for producing a beer for the sake of historical study (I’ve given you 2 extra Overall points for the effort). Of course you also produce many _good_ beers. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 7, 2005 On tap at the brewery. Rating this as a pilsner. Clear, looks like a pee sample. Mild, sweet, pale smelling. Tastes sweet, with a slight hoppy edge. Good lacing, creamy foamy head. I’m not much of a pilsner man, but this is the best of the category that I’ve ever had. A good summer drinker. donrajin (233), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 27, 2005 This is a fairly easy drinking beer. Not a whole lot of flavors but better than mass produced and good for a light flavored beer when you don’t want a beer that is too heavy.
