It has a sweet, corn aroma, and tastes very much a cheap, corn-flavored lager. Mild bitterness from hops is well in the background. Nearly pale yellow in color with a slight haziness. Light in body with a palate that is smooth, but slightly watery. Smallish white head dissipates to a thin, broken topping on the beer, leaving almost no lacing on the glass. Not awful, certainly better than mass-produced swill, but if this is an excellent approximation of what our relatives drank a century ago, I’m very thankful it takes a special effort from a brewery like Capital to reminisce about this style. Its true of their fest and bocks, their helles, and very much true with this pre-proh style lager. Too bad its not the nicest of styles in the world. Sweetish palate, a twangy finish possibly from corn syrup. Light hop character hints at the same kind of spiciness I get from their pilsner and helles. Meh. hezron (602), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA

Looks almost like apple juice because there is no head. Aroma of grain and corn. Tastes of corn and a slight hint of lemon. Light body with very soft carbonation. I must admit it is not my favorite style. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 16, 2005 This beer pours a nice white head and can be a bit fizzy. I like the yeasty aroma of these farmerstead beers. Flavor is also a bit yeasty, but also thin and a bit earthy. I like the idea of this style...but it is NOT a Pilsner...should have its own category. unclebleen (620), California, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Nice slightly hazy golden color with bright white head. Creamy malt nose. Rich mouthfeel with light sweetness on the finish. A bit of a corn quality but not in a bad way. Light hops round it out. Very mild though not bad. awaller05 (301), Sharon, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 2, 2004 Poured a nice yellow cloudy and with minimal head. Left a small lacing on top of the glass. Fruity smell with no noticable alcohol smell. First taste leave no noticable things to tell about. Easy beer to drink thegreenrooster (1835), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 20, 2004 Pours is a cloudy yellow with a small head. Aroma is light, you can almost smell some hops there. Flavor is bland and flat. Clean and easy drinking is the best thing I can saw about this one.
