Aaahh, nuthin’ like a good doppel...Pours quite cloudy darkish amber-orange with a thin biege head that disappears to a thin layer. Wondrous sweet malty aroma - rock candy, brown sugar, licorice and vanilla, plus hints of pine. Mouthfeel medium-full, fairly smooth, a bit sticky. Fine, weepy rings of lacing melt down the inside of the glass. Taste-wise this is a malt-lovers delight - has that bit of smokiness like a Spaten Optimator (one of my favorite doppels) layered over top of rock candy, vanilla and egg cream with hints of darker things like brown sugar and molasses. A light bitter piney hit arrives in finish. Quite a treat. presario (2997), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Autumnal Fire poured a clear glowing caramel brown. A 2 finger khaki head formed on the pour quickly falling to 1 finger that lasts. A glassful of large carbonation bubbles rise to the head. Leaves patchy lacing.
The nose is complex but subtle. Big hint of banana bread off the bat which is definately appealing. Subtle caramel maltiness in the background. Doughiness combines nicely with the other aromas. Every now and then I get a slight metallic twang that doesn’t detract from the beer.
Flavor is much the same as the aroma. Banana bread up front mixed with a mild but spicy alcohol that lingers in the back throughout. Caramel sweetness comes through mid palate with the alcohol getting spicier on the finish. Mild fumes rise through the nose.
Good medium body with a rich texture. Velvety smooth with mellow carbonation.
For such a high abv this beer is surprisingly drinkable. Enough sweetnees to mask the alcohol without becoming cloying.
Autumnal Fire is an excellent doppelbock from Capital. Enjoyable, easy drinking, and great flavor. The high point, without taking anything away from the flavor, is the mouthfeel.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 20, 2007 Bottle, thanks to Hogtown Harry. Fiery red / copper, thick small white head. Ok aroma - dusty malt, slight caramel. Malty taste, thick creamy body, lots of caramel notes. Not really any hops. More of a Scotch ale I thought (I tasted this blind without knowing nay about its ranking or style). Tasty, but just didn’t wow me. Skyview (4063), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 15, 2007 Picked up a 12-oz single bottle from Riley’s in Madison, Wisconsin. Surprisingly to still find this beer in May 07. Pours a hazy coppery caramel brew with an off-white head. A very fine lacing. Aroma is like a tripel, sweet barely malt, wild cherries, roasted nuts, and sweet apples. Taste is sweet, lightly carbonated, citrus, and a touch of brown sugar. Finish is also sweet with a malt after taste. Alcohol does warm you up. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 14, 2007 pours a red, orange, copper color with a huge three finger tan, creamy, solid head. aroma is malt, hops, and a little smoke. has a light to medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is roasted malt, a little hops, and some caramel. has a small dry hop aftertaste and a somewhat light syrupy mouthfeel. also is a little sticky on the lips. has a small burn going down the throat. i guess it is a descent beer for me a little weird and hard to rate as a hop head. i also noticed a little peppery taste and it is definitely a good looking beer.
