I wish i could remember more but i drank it like a week ago. It was quite smooth but i thought it had an overwhelming taste of alcohol. HogTownHarry (4020), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada

A big wave of fresh sweet bready aroma on opening, settles to a a sweet roast grainy malt with mild floral hops, a little alcohol burn and some ripe fall fruit character - elegant, solid. Taste is much more roast malt than I expected, bread dough, nutty chocolate, very soft floral hops, the alcohol doesn’t burn at all, but it’s there. Thick, chewy, syrupy mouthfeel, only mild carbonation, medium finish, feels excellent on the tongue. A truly terrific doppel, well done, sorry I didn’t share it but at least I got to drink a whole one. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2006 On tap @ Map Room: Pours a dark reddish amber with a small off white head that fades to a ring. The aromas are malty and a little bit of grapefruity hops. Smooth and medium bodied on the tongue as I roll it around the sweet carmel malty flavors fade to a hint of fall spices and warming alcohol. Sweet but not too sweet to still enjoy. kramer (2469), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2006 12 oz bottle, via Styles. Pours a clear reddish amber colored body under a small fizzy beige head that faded very quickly. Aroma is quite odd, alot of fruitiness for a lager, most prominantly peach and nectarines. Some alcohol, munich malt, and some caramel. Flavor continues the fruity theme with more peach and macintosh apples. Alcohol, toffee maltiness, and some figs on the finish. Mouthfeel is rather thick and full bodied with a slightly sticky finish. Carbonation is fairly active. Overall, I really wasn’t pleased with all of the fruitiness going on everywhere, it really doesn’t jive with a quality lager to me. enjoytheride85 (9), USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2006 I love it. Deep and rich color, good silky mouthfeel. smells of roasted malt and a little brown sugar. Sweet taste, a liitle chocolate, dark fruit and a hint of spice. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 2, 2006 A great beer. Little brother of Capital Eisphyre. Pours a medium slightly hazy amber. Small head that quickly fades. Malty and spicy. Almost had a barleywine type flavor. Very very good. chimpscampee (566), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

I didn’t taste the chocolate that some reviews mention. Brown sugar and carmel like sweetness is more than I prefer but not bad like some other Capital brews I’ve tried. The warming 8.5% alcohol content compliments this complex brew and lends a vinous like feel to it. Beautiful looking briew and bottle.
