| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2006 Updated: Oct 29, 200612oz, no date. Pours a clear copper red with a one finger fading beige head. Aromas of maple syrup, caramel and toasty malts, nuts, figs, and vanilla. Very malty and sweet, but not too sweet. The 8.5% is very well concealed. Taste consists of basically the same, and the flavors meld very well. I may be making it up, but I get very light spicy hops, which would be the only addition from the aroma. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation. Very good brew. Nice amber body with of white head. Rich sweetness and some too much spice for me in the flavor. This is a body warmer noicable from the first couple of gulps. Sweet maybe honey taste on palate. csbosox (1081), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Bottle is probably closing in on a year old. I had no idea it was a dopplebock or I would have drank it sooner. Served in a Duvel tulip (what I have by the computer). Dark copper color with a fine off white head. Aroma is huge malt, dark fruits (raisins, prunes, etc), spice, brown sugar, and hints of dak chocolate. The mouthfeel pretty full at first. The intial flavors are dark fruits, spice, mild roastiness, toast, milk chocolate followed by a rush of mild to moderate alcohol, some bitterness, cocoa, spice, and dark caramel. The finish is lingering malt that is just on the sweet side of being balaced. The finsh is anything but sweet and cloying. Good stuff. Thanks to Eric/Heemer77 for this beer. Marvelous appearance! The aroma is caramel malty, brown sugary, with some nuts and cabernet notes. The flavor is caramel malty and brown sugary up front, then gets fruity, with some nuts, toffee, cacao, and red winey notes. Great mouthfeel and great complexity in this one. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2006 Thanks to my UP roommate for this one. Too bad we can’t get this in Michigan -- it’s really good. I was expecting an Oktoberfest, but got a barleywine/doppelbock instead, which was a pleasant surprise. Sweet, lots of hops and malt taste, good body to it. One of the best beers I’ve had in a while. pineypower (1096), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 17, 2006 Thanks to Jeff for this one. Pours out a very nice copper/amber color with not much of a head. Sweet aroma of some fruit and maybe some bread. Taste is very nice, not what I’d expect from a dopplebock, but none the less this was a very solid drinkable beer. Sweet fruit notes with some caramel. Solid brew
