Commercial Description:
Our Capital Square Series features many rare, one-time pleasures (only 1,000 cases brewed). This baby is a dark hybrid of British and Baltic persuasion. Part porter. Part lager. Part dream come true.

on tap at maproom. pours dark red with off white head. aroma of cherries, dark fruits, chocolate, and rather vinous. flavors are grainy, red and dark fruits, a tad rotten dark fruit, bakers chocolate. fizzy mouth feel. alcohol is well hidden. not really dark enough or chocolate for a porter. decent though but i was hoping it at least measured up near autumnal fire, it doesnt.

Deep reddish amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of bananas, sugar, toasted malts and fruit. Taste of caramel, sweet malts and bit of chocolate. I’m not sure I’d classify this as a Baltic Porter, though I’m also not real sure what I would classify it as. It’s decent but not great.

Bottled from the new batch. Dark brown and ruby red body. The aroma is fairly strong with some toffee and black tea. There is also a fresh wood character. The taste is caramel with some black tea and potato skins. I am not impressed, but this was decent. A let down considering the brewer and the style.

Enjoyed out of a 32oz mug at Capital’s Biergarten. Dark but clear, small toast colored head around rim of mug. Very malty with the usual dark fruits aroma. Flavor was strong and hearty yet smooth; easy to quaff. Sweet nose reminded me of caramel or heath bars. Definitely one of my favorite Capital offerings.

Dark amber in color with a gorgeous off white head. Aroma is beautiful; hints of banana and caramel malt. The caramel comes through on the palate intermingled with hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. This is an absolutely fantastic beer. Definately not a "traditional" porter but it is still a must try! Delightful!

Capital night at Three Cellars Milwaukee. FANTASTIC !! In fact I find it hard to compare it to anything… very smooth and rich. Almost or wine like in its richness.. Perfect blending of the malts and hop. No harsh after taste or bite.

Many thanks to skyview for sharing. A solid fruity aroma. Vanilla joints them in a rather dry body. Very solid.

I’ve had a few Capital beers over the last few days, before which I’ve had little exposure to this brewery. All (Blonde Doppelbock, Munich Dark, Baltic Porter) have struck me as lacking the flavor intensity of competitive beers of the same styles. These beers aren’t bad, just muted, and that is the impression that this beer gave me as well. This beer poured dark with a nice tan head from the beer engine. Aroma was fainter than I expected, but with some nice roastiness and hints of toffee/caramel. Flavor was again a bit fainter than I expeted, but had some good dark roast to it, but I didn’t detect much else there. Hand-pump imparted a great smooth mouthfeel. I’d have this beer again, but I can’t say that when it comes to Baltic Porters or Imperial Stouts this one is tops on either list. I had this off the hand-pump at Roman’s Pub (Milwaukee).
