Deep iced tea colour, head disappears to a mere froth. Roasted malt, caramel aroma. Bitter/sweet, slightly too sweet taste. Aftertaste is sweet and deep, brown sugar. I think I would not lump this in with the baltic porters, it would fare even better.

Aroma of roasted malt, fruits, and slight chocolate. Taste of dark malt, chocolate, brown sugar, and slight alcohol. This light to medium bodied brew is not what I was expecting. A little light and lacking some depth. I was expecting more for this series but still tasty. guyinchicago (535), marengo, Illinois, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 27, 2009 12oz bottle. Sweet and rich. Sort of light colored for the style. Brown sugar with lots of pungent dark fruity esters. Quite drinkable despite the sweetness. Alcohol certainly makes itself known and is ever-present. Slight burnt brown sugar in the aroma. typical ruby brown porter color only a bit more pale. it is topped by a fizzy light tan head.
smells like it’s going to be sweet... cream, black licorice, malt powder and dark fruit/raisins.
it is rather sweet though the thinner body and sharp texture keep it drinkable. flavors of malt powder, wood, earth, pale molasses, some chocolate, vanilla and black raisins before a clean crisp finish. the aftertaste is a little roasty and nutty-ish.
not bad...it just lacks some depth and strength. 6/3/6/3/13/3.1

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2009 From a 12oz Bottle. Mostly transparent, root beer brown colored body with a thin layer of quickly dissipating, fizzy off-white foam. Clean, malty aromas of chocolate nougat, raisin, and toffee, although it definitely more of a Munich aroma than any dark fruits obtained through roasted malts. Would like a little bit more in terms of a dark malt character - more chocolate, licorice, or mild roast would be nice, as it’s lacking in this depth and somewhat more akin to a doppelbock. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a soft, malty texture. Lots of melanoidin flavors up front on the palate, rich and malty, but again, lacking in any real dark malt character. Toward the finish, a hint of roast comes out, mingling with the alcohol warmth, but it is very subtle. Hints of nutty malt. Exceptionally clean, but needs more dark malt character. Bottle: The aroma consists mostly of caramel along with some light toffee, fruit, and hints of smoke. It pours a transparent mahogany with a small beige head that quickly fades a thin film with a thicker ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate caramel with some molasses and dark fruits quickly following. The finish has a light chocolate cherry and a hint of grain. No hint of 8.5%. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and somewhat soft mouthfeel.
