Huge initial maltiness. Very sweet. Alcohol taste is evident but not obtrusive. Creamy & smooth with lots of heft. After about 3/4 of the glass on an empty stomach, the buzz kicked in with a vengeance. Very nice overall. Syd (894), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2004 Bottle pours a dark amber color with very little head and lace. The aroma is of malt and slightly sour. The flavor is malty, sweet, very restrained white grape and apple, and just very nice. The palate is big and thick. Overall, another fine Bock family effort from Capital. TheDean (785), MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2004 Copper/orange amber. Turbid carbonation, sweet malty nose, peppery alcohol. Small off white cap. Sweet, chewy malts, pears, white pepper, estery, slightly cloying, slightly lacking in character. Nothing spectacular here, but a fun rendition of a Doppel. The aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel/toffee and a touch of fruit. The flavor is sweet and fruity (apple?) with notes of caramel. The finish is rather crisp and clean. Medium bodied and smooth. GermanBrews76 (667), Eugene, Oregon, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 27, 2003 Light copper with a foamy, patchy head. A sparse, but consistant stream of tiny bubbles rises through the body. Large fruity aroma, with loads of malty pears, raisins, honey, candy sugar and bubblegum. Nice carbonation on the tongue and good flavours: caramel, sticky bitter honey, and some sweet malt. The nice fruit that was in the aroma has disappeared, but the full malt is very pleasant. Doesn't have the typical roasted and nutty flavours of a normal dopplebock, but is a good change of pace. . . loweredsixth (942), Fresno, California, USA
