Had this before and didn’t rate it for some reason. Bright copper in color with decent white head. Aroma is full of bready sweet malt, (amberish flavor profile) with some honey and grass. Flavor much the same except the grassy hop character starts to dominate and turns it somewhat skunky. Just not my thing. Very cloying mouthfeel, again much like an amber. Just average overall. wetherel (1636), Encinitas, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Bottle from secret santa. Thanks! Pale amber color. Nice small to microbuble head. Little clinging to glass edge. Aroma is mild of a little corriander, and the mildest of skunk. Flavor is mild, possibly a little bit vegetal and tiniest of sour. But these off flavors are very mild. Leans toward the sweet side. Medium to light body. Decent if there is nothing else around. Sparky27 (1596), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear dark gold with a 2 finger beige head that results in spotty lacing. The nose is caramel and dark fruits. The taste is caramel malt, brown sugar and light earthy hops in the finish. Light-to-medium bodied. Decent Dopplebock. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2006 From a 12 oz. twist cap brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date.
Poured an ever so slightly hazy orangy bronze with a nice foamy off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Aromas of sweet grainy malts, a touch of caramelization, a light fruitiness and spicy alcohol.
Moderate carbonation and a softly crisp, smooth lightish medium bodied mouthfeel.
Caramelized and grainy malts, the right amount of sweetness, a pleasant fruitiness, apples and pears, spicy hops mixing in with the warming alcohol, and a dryish spicy and fruity finish.
Another great doppelbock from Capital, one of my favorite American breweries.

Lots of malty sweetness. Warming. A little effervescent on the tongue. Saarlander (1579), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Some mentioned a hoppiness to this beer, my bottle has almost no hop character, its quite malty, sweet, which usually I stay away from, but it works good for this beer. Alcohol is well hidden, long sweet aftertaste. I’d have it again. Thanks to Duane for this bottle! esjaygee (1537), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA

Apples, caramel, bread, spice, cinnamon. Malty sweet, bready and smooth. Alcohol a little noticeable. Another nice doppel from Capital. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

sweet smelling... pale malt, grass, yeasty earthiness and red apples.
the flavor is surprisingly yeasty.... sweet...really sweet graininess, apples, faint citrus, grass, wet straw and a mildly bitter finish. a bit too sweet without a balance.
medium bodied. it is a bit slick and creamy on the tongue. 6/3/6/4/13/3.2
