Sweeter aroma of corn and maple syrup, lightly toasted bread. Alcohol and dry hops as well. Pours bright copper with some gold highlights. Thick, sweet, slightly syrupy and cloying with some copper undertones. Bread dough. Bland hops. Candy sugar. Caramel. Medium to full bodied but syrupy which distracts. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Big Munich malt aroma, bready, toasty, and with little hints of the sweetness you will experience in the taste. Flavor is a candy like sweetness mixed with the wonderful bready texture of the German malts. The sweetness of the melanoidins was intoxicating, just the most pleasant kiss I’ve had in a long time. Normally not a fan of pale Doppels, but this is such a treat. don’t understand the low ratings Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 7, 2008 Tap at the Muddy Pig. Clear, bland orange appearance. Sugary aroma of creamy, lager like fruitiness, bubblegum, cotton candy, and golden raisins, sinking at times into a more vegetal sweetcorn and squash sweetness with bits of salt. Doughy, dirty malt flavor of brown sugar, dark honey, cherries, and bread. Sourdough, a bit of perfume, a lot of caramel and candy sugar. Palate is medium in body; weakly textured with underdone carbonation. Finishes sweet and highly alcoholic with a tint of vanilla and maple cookie. Unimpressive; these lighter colors of sweetness are just too weak. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 6, 2006 Looks like a blonde doppelbock from Capital. Clear shiney copper; thin creamy off-white head. Aroma is like the Capital Maibock to me, but with slightly maltier perfume, and a touch more caramelly. Slight grain husk hints. Tannins? Light german perfumey hops. Actually… tastes like a richer Maibock too. But to me, the Maibock is fine by itself. Still good though. HonkeyBra (1373), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Wow, I was excited to try this one. Color was a golden orange. Smell was MALT!, some fruit, some spiciness. The beer is very thick. The mouthfeel is amazing, so thick and sweet. An awesome take on the style, and a great beer nonetheless. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2005 Thanks to Duane, Poured a hazy brown with a huge foamy tan head. Immediate Banana aroma. As foam settled, left very good lacing. Aroma of banana, yeast and maybe clove? Taste was sweet/sour malt. Flat taste even with the many tiny bubbles, while not awful, just not my cup of tea. But the ABV was well hidden. scrizzz (1333), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Fairly strong wet dog aroma, not too off putting for me, I happen to love my dog. Caramel cereal notes like golden crisp. Can’t get enough of that golden crisp. Clear bronze, temporary head. Clean, toasted sugar, almost medicinal, herbal finish as if this beer is balanced with spruce in place of hops. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Fresh batch, bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Clear light amber with light fizzy head. Aroma is light yeast with noble hops, some citrus spice as well. Flavor is spicy hops, malt sweetness, some banana, lager yeast, caramel malt, citus, a little brassy. Medium body and creamy. Not the best beer in the world and a little strange, but surprisingly better than most their other brews.
