| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2002 Light amber, very little head on my sample; average light ale appearance. Nose very complex, super-malty but peppery and alcoholic as well, with some herbal tones and an almost Belgian yeastiness; very promising. Mouthfeel very warming, alcoholic, very low carbonation. Super-malty and caramelly but also somewhat spicy which keeps it from being too sweet. Finish could have more oomph; a good but not great or exciting doppelbock. bhensonb (4337), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2009 Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours copper with a little creamy/bubbly white head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt with a touch of something like citrus. Medium plus body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is definitely lightly roasted malt with some hop bitter for balance. Hop is floral/earthy rather than citrus/pine. Fairly tasty. heemer77 (4309), Savannah, Missouri, USA

Pours a light red color with very little head. A sweet caramel and vanilla aroma and flavor. Has a unique burnt, ashy, peachy finish. However, this finish is very mild and provides a nice contrast from the sweet beginning. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 27, 2003 Amber hue with small white head, some lacing, medium to full-bodied. Aroma has caramel and slighty chocolate sweetness, spicy and fruity hop tones, phenolic notes. I agree that this beer has an almost belgian-like quality to it. Spice and sweet taste, the alcohol is detected, but not overbearing. Warming and smooth. A minor bitter bite on the the finish to help the balance. Mouthfeel is fizzy and somewhat creamy. A unique beer, not for everyday drinking however. Skyview (4057), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2007 Straight form a 12-oz bottle, pours a golden caramel with a semi-creamy off-white head that stays around. Light aroma of simple sugar syrup, and grassy hops. Taste is sweet and rich. Honey is present with very little hop. It has a a semi-sweet finish. A full body doppebock, without the darkness. Alcohol is a bit high. Ughsmash (4046), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2006 Bottled. Poured a clear, bright, medium golden with a short cap of dense white head. Nose was of toasty caramel and dark fruity malts, corn husk, and a faint hint of soap... overall rather weak for an 8% doppelbock. Flavor was deeper and richer with plenty of caramel, toffee, and cereal maltage.. plus a woodsy/leafy hop presence. Sweet malty become mildly cloying toward the back as this warmed.. smooth yet grainy across the middle. Alcohol provides power and warmth without getting in the way. Solid stuff overall. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 19, 2006 Updated: Jun 20, 2006Bottle (12oz). Poured lovely bubbly amber-gold with a lasting average beige head. Bready light roast malt aroma, apricot and citrus fruitiness, and floral hops - I could smell the bread dough yeast from 2 feet away. Sweet malt and fruit taste to start, some fresh grain and very light hop bitterness in the finish - delivers on what the nose promised - very nice. Thickish mouthfeel for the style, light carbonation with a medium linger initially, with a longer noticeably alcoholic finish as it warms - no aftertaste, very refreshing, I’d have this again for sure.
